I personally wouldn’t fork out £20k + over a £10k bike to save a few hundred quid every 16000 miles
But the 20k bike is so much better than the 10kDepends how you look at it .

doesn’t get away from the fact the Japanese bike dealers are taking the piss big time even on 7k bikes, see Nathan the postie regarding the KLE500 
That is worth knowing.It is 3 years or 18000 miles, there is no mention of number of services
Also worth remembering if you have the service plan you cannot book the bike in early(perhaps to allow for euro tour) the bike has to be indicating it needs a service on time or miles. So some planning required to get full benefitThat is worth knowing.
Yep I have just booked mine in for my GS at Vines in Guildford (£388), it currently only has 2200 miles so barely run in and none of these things really need doing in my opinion.....
Luckily, I have a referral discount as one of my friends bought a bike from them off the back of my recommendation, because they were really good to me. But it has to be said that Vines are one of the more expensive dealers for servicing in the South East. I am in Maidstone, Kent so Stratstone are my nearest - I've not bother with them. Barratt's in Canterbury are about £50 less than Vines.

I did this once years ago with a Honda..... the exact same oil but at about half the price. I did get a few raised eyebrows but they did use the oil and just charged me the labour.
The Triumph Tiger 1200 - 12K service (I think) - the one with Valve Clearance check is about £1000, Triumph services are up there with BMW.But not as much piss as most Japanese big bikes these days 16k service seems to run between £700 and £950 at a main dealer

You wouldn’t want the valve check too often at £1000 a time
I guess another 18 k not too bad, but still seems steep.
First service on my BMW was no charge, it just had to be done within 7 months and between 600-750 miles (I just squeaked in with 743). I'll do the 6,000 myself.
My CRF1000 Africa Twin required valve clearance checks every 16k, and could cost £600-900 at a main dealer depending on adjustments needed…..most of that was labour getting to them, silly design! Most people skipped them if no issues starting etc. Those that did them rarely stated they were out of spec - so pretty pointless in most cases.

A lot of people have valves set the first time called for then never again, unless they notice them getting noisy or it becomes hard to start. I used to cringe hearing that but I'm not so sure that might be a good course to take.
