Just booked the ferry to Santander from 11 april returning from there on the 22nd. There are two of us and we want to busk it with some camping and maybe a bit of fishing. Not bothered where we go could be west into northern spain or east into france /pyrenees. Just a bit of adventure and visit a few new places. Dead flexible. Obviously want a few days good riding but I dont want to spend all 12 days blasting round twisty mountains looking at my mates arse. Any ideas will be gratefully received

Cheers John

John, it's your (and your friend's) holiday, not ours.

Have you (or your friend) tried looking at:

(i) Any of the Pyrenees threads and / or at the assorted trip reports for inspiration?

(ii) Sites like http://www.bestbikingroads.com/

(iii) Tried any fishing forums or maybe local tourist boards? Do you require a fishing permit? The tourist office will tell you, for sure.

(iv) Tried Google http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fi...s=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a Hit no. 1 on a long list http://www.gourmetfly.com/Tourpyr.htm Which leads to: http://www.gourmetfly.com/Pyr3.htm

It's the joy of surfing. It's easy and can turn up all sorts of ideas. Give it a go.

Seriously, just do a bit of work beyond booking a ferry.

Go West!

Not far from Santander is Llanes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llanes

Nice little town itself but a handy base for the northern coast. South are the Picos if you fancy a jaunt into the hills, There are some prehistoric caves nearby if you want a bit of history and of course the North of Spain is home to the spanish cider industry.

Get a night or two at the Hotel Mirador de la Franca. Nice spot. Walk out the front door and onto the beach!

Sea or fresh water fishing ?

Bait or lures ?

So many questions, so little time.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I have infact spent a lot of time trying to find something that I could book on the north coast for some sea fishing but couldn't find anything hence the post. There looks to be a lot of fishing villages so maybe you just have to ask, We could go over to the med side and again i have spent lot of time looking for a charter around Cadaque. Ive looked at the Ebro stuff and that's definitely looks worth a go. Just wondered if anyone had actually done any fishing down there

Thanks

John

OK, so it's sea fishing you are after... :thumb2

It's not clear from your thread if it's the fishing that's important or the riding / routes.... From the way it's worded the fishing is incidental ('a bit of fishing') and you are after 'a few new places to go to....and a bit of adventure' - either east or west - but not riding everyday for 12 days.

Can you try to narrow it down a bit more, or you will end up with suggestions that go all the way to Portugal and back to Toulouse. Or is that what you want?

If it's routes you are after, many are all listed out in this section and in the ride reports.

Just don't forget your Trout Mask Replica :thumb2

I've only flyfishing experience for trout, seatrout and salmon in Northern Spain and the Pyrenees but can tell you it's excellent :thumb

Some cracking rivers in the Picos e.g. the Rios Carès, Deva and Sella. The kit required is minimal - travel rod, reel, some nylon and a box of flies. You can wet-wade if needed, pair of shorts and an old pair of trainers is my usual gear.

Licencing can be difficult if you're not a Spanish speaker but most tourist info places can sort you out with a day ticket. Some rivers are cotas sin muerte (catch and release) which is OK by me as I don't camp so no point in chappin' em anyway :)

Otherwise, take a guided day or two with one of the local groups - GourmetFly are very good and know their areas well

The Ebro delta area has some cracking fishing (Im told)...big carp and cat fish.
I have a couple of mates down there that have holiday lets that can arrange guides, boats, licences etc.... dont go without a licence, one bloke had all of his kit confisacated when the bailiffs caught him for a second time!
If your camping then give me a nudge... I have a bit of land about 1km from the Ebro near Bitem.
