Fit a Puck - Nobody Mentioned This - 1999 R1150GS - fitted a side stand enlarger and then as mention numerous times for lessening the lean when on the side stand - fit a puck!

I can only see one mention but that was from fitting a piece of oak but not regarding the puck when mounted hitting the centre stand and not allowing the side stand to retract right up!

I already had to file some out of the side stand enlarger to stop it hitting the standard collector box!

Any puck fitters run into this issue? If so how did you get round it?

From the pictures attached I may get the Dremmel out and put a groove in the puck.

I think most people would consider the side-stand enlarger redundant if you fit a puck. Without the enlarger you'll save a few mm of clearance to the centre stand. Whether that's enough I'm not sure - there are a number of factors including the exact position that the centre stand rests in, which can be tweaked by bending the 'stop' on the right hand side of the collector/cat and/or modifying the rubber bung on the stand itself.

I have a puck fitted directly to the side stand and it does touch the centre stand when both are retracted, but not enough to cause any issues. I'd suggest removing the enlarger first and see how it looks.

Thanks sproggy - it doesn't look like it will make much difference with the enlarger taken off but as you say maybe a few more mm of clearance and with the angle of dangle it might just do it.

Will have a look at the stop and the rubber bung on the stand as well.

Cheers!

I fitted an adventure side stand a long time ago and solved all these problems 👍 although I have made several Ali plates for others to fit to their 1150’s

Extender taken off - puck fitted direct to side stand plate - a bit of Dremeling and it all fits snug and clears the centre stand (centre stand took about 5mm of the rubber stop bung on the right hand side!

All is now well in my tidy mind!

I don`t have a puck on one of my bikes i have a piston from a Rolls Royce Merlin V12 engine.....!

Takes me back a long long way. 70 years ago my father was a heavy smoker truck mechanic and he had a Merlin piston on his workbench as his ashtray.

tom

Tom, the original owner of my piston also used it as an ashtray hence the reason it’s been cut in half.

Side Stand Puck
I fitted this on my 1150 to stop it sinking on camping trips designed for caravan jacks to stop them sinking on soft ground works a treat and still folds up clear of everything

You might have been had over there...

A Merlin piston has three compression rings plus oil control rings.

Diameter should be 5.4 inches.

It's still novel though...

Amazon and E Bay both have them for sale.
And it doesn’t have to be a new puck. Plenty of used pucks available, ice hockey teams dispose of them after a few games, nothing wrong with them if using on a side stand

What!!!!
NoooOOOOoo, do`nt say i`ve been living a lie telling everyone it`s off a legendary Merlin and it turns out it`s just an inferior Griffon or summat!!
I`m just repeating what my mate told me who got he it off another mate who`s late dad used to own it....

What could it be off then, are all Merlin pistons have 4 comp.rings or could this one be an early and rare prototype example....? :)
