Well, finally broke down and ordered the hugger from Nippy Normans. Fitted it today and noticed a small gap between the frame and the fibreglass of the hugger so thought ...ummm, some sealer will sort that out. So now I have a hugger fitted and sealed!!! :) Not sure I thought this through fully though as now thinking ....ummm, how do I get this off!? :blast Anyone else done this (ie used sealer to fill the gap)? Anyone have any ideas how to remove rubber silicon sealant from the frame? On the positive side, hugger looks good and I'm hoping will keep the spring and all that area getting filthy on rainy days!!

Hello and welcome to the forum Bob :beerjug: If you get round to joining put some pictures up we like pictures :D :beerjug:

I'm not sure how to get the sealant off little by little I suppose :nenau. some one no doubt will have a better idea the huggers look good :thumb2 and do a good job :thumb2, I went for the mud art thing which just follows the contour of the of the existing arch and blocking of the gap to the shock (it just gets some drizzle from the scot oiler which I can live with :D :D

If you have access to either side of your sealant you could use dental floss tape, yes the stuff you clean your teeth with, its made of kevlar and will cut through it nicely. :)

Thanks guys! The dental floss idea seems inspired!! Will give that a go in due course. Hoping I don't need to remove it (can't see any need at least) so may be just academic but I am kinda' kicking myself for not thinking it though first!! Oh well, worse things happen at sea, as they say!! My other mod is the Adventure Spec engine guards. Definitely like those puppies!! :)

Welcome Bob, so far as getting silicone off the frame - I find it comes off fairly easily once dry if you rub it with your finger, or you can get silicone remover from most building plastics stockists - the ones that do gutters, soffits and stuff. Do test first though as it may have an adverse effect on any number of bike parts - it is a solvent after all.
Dental floss does seem an inspired idea to loosen the two parts from each other.

Floss

Works nicely if you need to get BMW badges off your tank for a respray too:)
