Like so many others, I reckon a bigger screen is in order for the 1200GS.

As they are quite cheap I thought I would start off by getting a NN super-high super-wide screen and see how I get on. I know there are many others, preferred by some and loathed by others, but from what I read this whole screen thing seems totally subjective.

Back to the point, can anyone who has one of these screens comment on how easy it is to install, they claim a straight swap?

Also, as the screen is bigger, is there an increased leverage force on the screen fittings that might cause a problem does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

I have the high and wide NN screen
it took ten minuets to fit :aidangreat improvement over the standard screen and yes a stright swap

i have the super high wide, makes a huge improvement, but be aware the main fixing point cut outs were very poor on my screen. you transfer the original grommets/inserts over but the cut outs on the NN screen were far too large.

its a straight swap for the screen and takes about 15 or mins if u dont drop things.

there is naturally extra leverage on the lower screen brace and it does flex but so far no problems.

+ 1 on previous posts, no probs with fit or performance :thumb

+2 I have the NN 'high wide' (not the 'super').

I've heard that you perhaps look through the bigger screen, not over it, depending on how tall you are and this can sometimes be a problem when scratching about on back roads and at night......has anyone experienced this?

I've got one, easy to fit, no problems with mounts and I can see over it, I'm 5'8.

Only down side, it's so good at deflecting the airflow, I get too hot in the summer and can't get any air through my jacket.

This is what it looks like.................

Straight swap; 10 minute job.
But be aware it will affect your steering lock slightly & the leverage effect may flex a GPS over your instruments a bit.
But it takes the blast off my 6 foot 5 frame (not the head though) & reduces rider fatigue.

Do you find it reduces turbulence compared to the stock screen as well as reducing amount of windblast ? I'm 6ft4, and currently have the stock screen on a low height setting, as on the high settings I'm getting a lot of buffeting.

I (6ft) had the same problem. I always had to use the original screen on the lowest setting to avoid buffeting (seat on upper position). I'm now using the NN high wide (not super) also on the lowest setting with a great improvement as the air seems to flow over your head. I have also raised the screen a couple of notches when in rain with no ill effect. Well worth a try and they are not too expensive.

I'm using the NN high wide tinted screen (not super) on the higher setting which is superb except for one point which someone mentioned earlier. I find the screen top is just in my field of vision and being tinted it causes some problems especially when wet or dirty or pushing on down back roads. I keep meaning to try on a lower setting as this may get over the problem but I like the protection. If I was changing i'd buy the clear screen otherwise its great and priced well. I'm 5' 8" and use the low seat option which may add to the problem.

Brian, just drop it down a little, buffeting actually gets better and you can see over, no problem.

I'm also 5'8 and on the low seat.

Thanks Miked i'll give that a whirl next time out, mind you that'll be the weekend off road Thetford Forest ride out so maybe standing on the pegs won't be the best test.

Turbulence isn't that simple. I find with a smooth well-sealed helmet that wind buffeting isn't too bad despite the air flow hitting around the top of the visor. However, get behind anything taller than a Transit, & if there's any crosswind it feels as if you're attached to a rippling flag. That effect is worse with the larger screen, which I keep in the most upright position as I ride with a tall seat on the highest setting.
A stock screen , even at highest setting, funnels the wind blast straight into my chest, with consequent riding fatigue. Fine for 20 miles, but any further, & with an upper back whiplash problem.......... Maybe I should get an RT instead; but that's what I moved from before- with screen problems!
Most tall riders I know set seat height as high as pos. for leg comfort(to avoid the feeling of squatting in a Turkish toilet). It will inevitably compromise any attempt at wind blast protection for the head. Maybe try a BMW system helmet instead?
In summary, any change in riding environment will have knock-on effects in other areas.

how does it effect steering lock??? it doesnt on mine at all.

NN Screens

Fitted a tinted screen to my 08 GS. Had to enlarge holes in screen to take original grommets and washers. Not a big deal but a bit miffed as the sales pitch said it was a straight fit.:( I use a TT 'Windscreen support' (part no 044-0414, page 273)to support the screen as I have a TT 'screen extension' which I bought for my last bike which just had the standard screen.

... to enlarge holes in screen to take original grommets and washers...

The lower screen mounts changed some time between '04 and '07, plastic washers added and holes enlarged. Looks like the NNhw uses the older pattern holes.
