Fitting ADV pannier frames and footrests - easy job?

I have a left and right alu pannier set now for my ADV. Spose I'd better get the frames now to attach them though have been enjoying using the right hand pannier as a large topbox - can fit a work bag in there better than the standard alu topbox.

I need to buy the frames and footrest kit. My question is - is it a straightforward job to fit them myself (I can handle a torque wrench okay!). Any reason why I should get the dealer to fit them or is it a straightforward 1 hourish job?

Cheers,

Mark

Dead easy, I whip mine off to clean the frames, doesn't take much longer than removing the standard plastic one...10 to 15 mins max.

Just to add a note of caution here.

Be very careful when you are screwing in the two 5mm (maybe 6mm?) screws that secure the top rear section of the frames, as they are very easy to cross thread.

Personally, I would suggest that you screw these two in first loosely, but do not tighten them up yet.

You can then add the larger single bolt at the front and the two that secure the rear foot rests. You may also find that you will need to "stress" the frames a little to get all the bolts to start.

BUT above all, don't rush it and check that the screws are not cross threading, as it is very easy to do it!

Hope that helps?

Very helpful all - thanks for taking the time to post.

I will place that order.

Cheers!

You're not wrong there...:( Guess who's had to get out the tap and die set....
