Fitting an Innovv K7 dashcam

I’m thinking of fitting an Innovv K7 dashcam (front & rear) system to my 1250GS. My concern is where to fit the control unit and the GPS module. As I already have both a BMW alarm and a Datatool tracker fitted in the pillion seat area, I’m a bit stuck for space.

I’ve had a look at some of the online videos. Apparently, it is not advisable to fit the control unit on top of the ECU under the rider seat as it seems to fit if the seat is in the high position, but not in the lower position that I use.

One place that is suggested is to removed the nearside DIN plug and fit the unit inside the cover.

Has anyone else faced these issues with the K7, and if so, how did you get round it? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I went for a K6 front & rear as it is far less of a pita to fit. I power it from the USB by the dash. All you need to do is remove some panels & find a point to mount the rear camera. My front camera is on a Wunderlich camera mount.
Yes I know the cameras need a clean! So does my bike.

Mine was fitted by BMW workshop and unit fitted under the rear seat for easy access, my understanding is the supply to the unit needs to from a feed that’s has the time delay after ignition turned off or an accident think it’s approx a minute etc to allow continued recording after a fall or accident

The K6 doesn’t have a separate control unit, it all runs from the front camera. Micro SD card goes in there & the power lead has a take off that goes to the rear camera. There are in line connectors & Innovv include extension leads so you have enough cabling. I didn’t have to use an extension lead.

Thanks again. I've had a look at both the K6 & K7 and I can now see what you mean. I think I'm leaning towards the K7 and, if I didn't have my alarm & tracker under the rear seat I think the K7 control box would fit there but it does seem a bit bulky and, if I can't find an acceptable way of tucking everything away, then the K6 looks the better option.

Mallard you should definitely go with the K6. I was in the same boat ,under my seat has the hexezcan and cables all bundled where the tool roll goes so no room even for a hamsters fart. The K6 front camera has the whole working built in and takes the SD card. I've got mine velcroed to the front beak in front of the headlight. It's piss easy to access the card should I need too. I stuck mine with that stickle brick velcro. I was commuting on my bike for over a year 3 days a week and the camera never moved and the footage was excellent

I've now got a K6. I un-boxed it on my desk, connected it to a power-bank, downloaded the App, and everything worked fine. I then laid it all out alongside the bike (1250GS) and plugged it into the USB socket. It powered up but the green light kept flashing - it was not recording. Went and got my phone, connected the Wi-Fi, and it worked. Do you always have to have it connected? I just want the camera to power on/off through the ignition, so does it mean that if you haven't got your phone it doesn't record? I don't always carry my phone, and what happens if you don't have a signal, or am I doing something wrong?

From memory after 30 seconds or so the flashing green should turn to red. Not sure whether the phone is required as I'd always have mine anyway so can't answer with knowledge

Cheers Dub. With a wifi connection to my phone - switch on ignition, solid red light comes on with a green light flashing which then goes solid, and camera records. Without a wifi connection - solid red comes on + flashing green. Green does not go solid and no recording.

Can't see how or why the camera needs the phone in proximity to record. You are using the USB to charge /run it. Maybe connect to the battery and see if you get a permanent recording situation, my thinking is the USB could have a current fluctuation which could be causing the problem. If the permanent feed to the battery solves the problem all you then do is find a swiched live to run. If my prognosis of the USB is wrong I've been talking out my arse and wasted your time.

Don't think you've got it wrong Dub, as I was thinking of going direct to the battery myself, but I have been using both the bike's USB and a power-bank, and the result is the same with both. I've emailed Innovv Support so hopefully they will come up with something. I'm not exactly a techy superstar but I'm not a complete numpty either.
