Picked up a new GS a couple of weeks ago, was going to get engine bars fitted but for various reasons didn't.

As it's my new pride and joy I'm **** scared of dropping it so would now like to fit some crash protection, I've looked at the aftermarket stuff and read the threads on this site, decided that I'd like to fit the Wunderlich bars. Alternative of course is to get my dealer to fit the factory bars but they do seem (how do I say this politely?!?!) rather expensive.

My question is, how difficult are they to fit? I'm a bit worried about buggering around with a new (not inexpensive!) bike.....

Any advice appreciated.

I have just fitted a set of Wunderlich bars, they are not difficult to fit if you follow the English instructions, the hardest part is lining the bars up and twisting them between the wheel, exhausts and wishbone (the advice to protect this is good advice I used the bubble wrap the bars came in) a bit like one of those chinese puzzles. The other thing that looked odd and threw me whilst adjusting them was the bar is noticably closer to one cylinder head than the other, of course it is as the pots are offset on the crank and felt a bit of a pratt.
The job took less than an hour and they don't have to be removed or partially disassembled for any service task, I like them.

Simon,

give Lind of Norwich a ring (01603 620222), ask to speak to Barry Lynes. I was in there yesterday and I think he may have a couple of sets of engine bars available cheap - may be worth a call....

Mike:)
