Hi, I'm fairly new to everything BMW (2 wheels) so be gentle. I have a Givi topbox (Simply) which has followed me from Kwak ZR7 and DL650 VStrom. I know want to fit it to my 2006 GS. Some say the Simply range should not be fitted to bikes over 600CC but that is cobblers I think. I have the universal plate which sits nicely on the GS and I think I can use the standard universal fitting kit which is basically 4 hex bolts dropping through the plate, bolted underneath with the 4 Givi small plates which are designed I think for mounting onto tubular bars eg rear rack on a Guzzi California or similar. Any thoughts please?

If you are bolting the Givi plate to the 1200GS luggage platform then you might need to invest in the support/strength enhancers for the luggage platform as I believe it is not that strong without them - not sure off hand if these are original BMW bits or made by someone like TT.

I have the correct Givi rack (with the updated design) for the R1200GS that replaces the OEM one, as can be seen in the front of the photo below, the rear bike has the original Givi design fitted that you can see bolts to the OEM rack and has 2 supports that fit just above the rear light.

I had the 46l model fitted (by the BMW agent) on my last 1200GS - but like many others i had problems with the bolts on the support and by the time they had been drilled out and replaced with tougher bolts the whole exercise was more expensive than a standard BMW box - which will go on my new 2008 model.

Hmmmm, thanks chaps, maybe best to flog the Givi and go for the BMW box

Nothing wrong with the one you have, only it'll be limited to something like 3kg. Plus the original (plastic) BuMW rear rack isn't very strong either.

Givi better and considerably cheaper than the BuMW unit. You can keep the box when you sell the bike and so on.

Givi Monokey mounting hardware (like shown in top photo) plus box less than £300 depending on what size box you get
