Fitting H&B Crash bars, ********, feck………

Well, I think I’ve really fcuked that up. How the ******** do you fit the rear most n/s bolt. Managed the o/s OK, but I’ve given up with the n/s I just can’t get the bolt in. Read Simon Eassom’s excellent write-up, and the many post’s on this topic. Tried jacking under the rear pillion peg - several times, and when everything looks clear/aligned will that bolt go in, NO. Even taken the bar off and tried refitting the original bolt, failed…… Threads on bolts seem OK, and an M10 nut goes on them no probs, so I’m beginning to think I’ve buggered the thread in the footrest hanger/rear subframe/gearbox housing…….

Anyone got any bright ideas, or a gun??????????

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

subframe

Ned,
If I was you I would loosen off all of the subframe fixing points, and then start by putting those rear bolts in first, sounds like you have more spring in yours than normal. As for jacking the bike/frame up,well I have never liked the sound of that, it has worked for many, but you have to get it bang on.This is a fair bit more work, but you won't balls your threads up on your gearbox ££££.This is what I had to do when replacing a subframe on mates GS it had more spring than the one we removed.Andy

Help is just round the corner from you, call Vern 01905 612705... he's such a sweetie ;)

I found that on the o/s rear bolt a quantity of BMW loctite had blocked the threads when I removed the bolt. I gently ran a "first cut" tap of the correct size into the threads which cleared the gunk out - hey presto, perfectomundo.

Ned, try putting the jack under the rear of the engine so you are then raising or lowering it square. Using the jack will allow you to make minor adjustments to get everything lined up.

Try putting the bike on the side stand. This worked for me when I replaced the standard bolts with stainless and the engine dropped.

Many thanks for the replies boys.

It was easily sorted. I just rang Vern, he came round and put the offending bolt in it's place!

Thanks Vern
