what a right faff on that is....... the U bolts are a stupid idea and i reckon my set must be bent as the LH side bar stick out further than the RH side.

also its shite to have the tank/engine bar clamps directly above the downpipes - i can see fun taking the bars off in the future!

feckin shite idea, wish i had never bothered TBH rrhhhhhaaaaaa.... rant over.... :hide

I helped put a set of a friends bike... I had to stand on the seat and pull with rope to get everything lined up... surely there must be an easier way? I wonder if it is the bars or the bike which tends to be a bit off centre?

i would say its the bars as i noticed something else: i fitted a set of hella de fogs and with both brackets lined up in exactly the same way on the bars the LH one is pointing off to the side and not straight like the RH side.

if i still had the receipt and bought them recently they would be going straight back to the shop!

HB make goo engine bars but the tank bars are complere shite....

I found them a nightmare to fit the ubolts. Recently needed to move the bars to get the left hand tank cover off. Just as much a nightmare to get the ubolts off again. However I didn't remove the bars altogether. I just loosened the clamps on the engine bars and slide the bars along to the left. This was enough to get the cover off. When putting the bars back on I replaced the ubolts with a rubber covered bolt which meant they lined up with the frame underneath the beak. Then some very heavy duty cable ties to keep them in place before tightening up the clamps on the engine bars. Luckily I had some spare wire on my lights which allowed the tank bars to move along to allow access to the tank cover. At least if my fuel pump fails I now know how I can get to it.

at least its not only me then, it might be worth also having a look at the clearance between the rh beak frame mounting and the oil line from the oil cooler, it is very close and i am 100% sure it will chafe thru the line giving u a hot oil shower at the same time!

so u didnt refit the u bolts then? just a normal bolt with rubber tube over it to act as a positioning guide and then large tywraps??

I found the same problem when fitting mine and was really miffed to find you can`t take the tank of without taking the tank bars of first.

So I cut the 2 side protector loops off and had the bars powder coated, I can take the tank side covers of now and still have the main part of the bars left, which I only wanted so I could fit my Hella MicroDE fog lamps.

I was given the top bars so not to worried about the fact I have cut of the loops.

Also stopped the BMW dealer from charging to remove the bars when it had to go in to have some work done.
