Last winter, I fitted a heated vest cable directly to the battery but wasn't aware a SERVICE message would appear. A few months later, I removed the cable so I could use the vest on a different bike. It wasn't an issue, just irritating & put my mind in doubt.

The vest (Oxford Inox) is designed to be fitted directly to the battery & the cable has those circular battery connections (don't know their proper name).

Recently the bike had a software update & the message has gone. Now winter is here, how do I disconnect the battery to fit the heated vest cable without having the SERVICE message show up again?
I read the recent post by MAR.600 but he was only warned it would appear, no one advised how to prevent it. Is that because you can't? :nenau

If you really want/need to connect direct to the battery then you should "find a friend" with a 9-11, which allows a reset on the service date to whatever you want.
HTH.

EXO heated jacket fitted to the battery without any issue, just screwed it in and away I went :) Don't know why your jacket / vest should have an issue ?

There is no logical reason why wiring a heated vest direct to the battery via suitable fused lead should trigger a 'Service' message.

Suggest you have another go this year and report back.

I maybe wrong here but on my f650 gs twin as soon as you disconect both leads (in my case to fit a new battery) the service light comes on. Mine had done less than 4 k and 6 months from a service when it came on. So the message was triggered by the removal of batt lead.

If I disconnect the battery on my 1200GSA for an hour or so then this will also trigger the service indicator. Luckily I have a GS911 to deal with that one.

Its not wiring a heated vest that's the issue, if you disconnect the battery then the service light will come on (I believe when the power is disconnected it resets the date it also resets the trip and clock)I have just activated the service light on my F800GS when I connected direct to the battery. its possible if you have an extra pair of hands to help keep pressure on the battery connection when you undo the terminal bolt or just do as I did leave it showing till the next service or update doesn't affect the bike in any way.
