I've just fitted Les's plug and play kit of HID50's to my 1200gs.

But although mostly very helpful, the instructions went a little wrong when it came to fitting the bulbs and before I cable tie the wires in place and put the screen back on I want to check I got them right, no email answer from Les just now (not that I expect him to be on email 24/7 or anything!!)

So there were two globes. I went for the ceramic core option. There was no "R" written on either!!

It says clearly that "R bulbs have foam packaging". But the sentence before says that the R bulb "You will need to break the base of the plastic burner cover to remove it".

The bulb I got with foam packaging, slipped out of the plastic case without breaking a thing. The one with the bottom that needed to break had no foam!!

Looks like it's going to rain soon, so I decided (guessed) the one with foam must be the R. It also had a kind of metal band toward the base of the cone which it "seems from the web site" that it might be the ceramic core which burns cooler, so I figured that must be the low beam and on all the time. It also had red and black wires and not blue and black like the instructions said...

Anyone help me with this so I can finish the job???

Fingers crossed I don't have to pull it all out again...

Many thanks in advance!

I'm going from memory here as I'm not infront of my bike, but I remember the R bulb I have has a small part of the rear "filament" shrouded underneath to stop that part from lighting up the bottom of the reflector which can dazzle oncoming drivers. If you can see that and notice how the other bulb has nothing then you know thats the R bulb.

No guarantees though coz my memory is shot these days.

Thank Beemerman!

Sounds like I made the right decision then, cos the R I chose was the one with the "wrap" around the base of it.

:)

Wonder should I wait for absolute confirmation though before cable ties and final fittings... suppose I don't have to undo all the ties if I do have to do the swap... just makes it a little more hassle.

All R bulbs have the paint on the bulb glass, for want of a better discription and all bulbs with the tags on the cable will have on them listed, the watt, K and type :thumb2

All done :)

Quite happy cos I was a little nervous about doing it myself. I needn't have been, all very simple and I think I got all the wires tidied up nice too!

Amazingly satisfying doing stuff yourself... well...

Thanks Les for making it so easy!

Cheers

:beerjug:

p.s - Les, a note in the instruction saying that the "R" light is the one with the "wrap" rather than the foam reference would be a winner! :thumb
