Fitting HID's to your R1200gs

Hi all, last weekend I fitted HID's to my Hexhead (and to my wife's F650gs twin).

I got the kits from Les at hid50.com and cannot recommend them highly enough.

Les is great to deal with. His stuff is not the dirt cheap stuff sold on eBay and his customer service is phenomenal.

+1 for Les's kit, comprehensive and designed by someone who's fitted HIDs and knows the possible snags. I just transferred a set from a GS to a GSA and Les's bracket, that fits the GS perfectly, doesn't fit the GSA as it fouls the centre brace of the crash bars, there's probably a specific bracket for the GSA. We bodged it by sandwiching the bracket between the oil cooler and an oil cooler protection grille in from of the cooler rather than the usual mounting behind the cooler. A bodge, I admit, and one that we should sort properly before too long. Just as well I kept the instructions too.

Interesting ... what was the total cost of the kit and also, would Les fit them for a price presuming he has the expertise ?

Les fitted mine for me. He most definitely has the expertise and he's not too far from you.

I had Les's HIDs the lights are excellent no dazzle and relatively slow warm is no problem for main beam as well.
You do need both. Main beam is weak and not well aligned. With HID in dip you won't even see the main beam.
I've now got LEDs they work just as well but there are issues with closing the headlight at the back. I'm keeping Les's kit on standby.
Reminder to me. Get a pair of spare burners.
I did not find the mounting plate was much help on the GSA. Strapping the ballasts to the tank crashbar crosstube is easy enough.

Good aftersales from Les, after 4 years my dipped ballast unit has a fault. New parts ordered at a good price, should be here soon.
