just tried to fit a Remus Y piece to my 1200gs which went well until I came to refitting the lamda sensors. The engine bars which came with the bike and I assume are BMW don't allow the sensors to go back, has anyone come across this problem, am I a dunce or do I have to invest in a new set of engine bars if so what make ?.

That's a harsh one, I can see how they wouldn't clear the bars, I wonder if someone on here's overcome that problem. I've got hepco and becker bars and had no clearance issues if worse comes to worst, they're not too pricey from motorworks either. Not to mention there's more protection than with the standard bars :thumb2 Hope you can sort it without spending more £££ though!

EDIT: Just wondering have you tried fitting the lamdas while the exhaust is off? Maybe that'll give you the clearance you need.

Oh and welcome to the forum! Best go and introduce yourself before anyone tells you to!

Thanks Jonny L for your reply ,Yes I tried fitting sensors before connecting pipe but still not enough clearance.Cheers

I remember there being some clearance issues on certain bars. Probably worth posting a picture so people can id the bars and give you some more info.

Welcome to the forum anyway :thumb2

I'd say you have Hepco and Becker engine bars fitted as genuine BMW ones don't cause any problems for the sensors on Remus headers and while I've no personal experience H&B do. :blast

Other bars I can confirm work with the Remus headers are SW Motech and Touratech.

IF you can post a picture it might help confirm what type you have.

Hi thanks for your reply I have a photo but have no idea as yet how to post it sorry. After readingthe small print at the bottom it seams I cannot make attachments.

I have H&B bars and had no problem fitting Remus Headers. You can disconnect the lambda sensors from the wiring loom (there is a plastic connector), screw the sensors in and reconnect the wiring after they are screwed in.

Just fitted two sets of Remus headers to GS1200's last week, one of which was fitted with H & P engine bars, absolutely no problems in fitting whatsoever.

FYI.:thumb2

Hi Looking at Nippy Normans and Motorworks web sites there seams to be to 2 different remus header pipe designs ,1 with the lamda sensors on the flat piece of pipe and 1 with the sensors on the angled pipe just down from the cylinder head.Could you tell me which type you fitted, many thanks.

Thanks Nag I never new there were differences between remus headers !!

I was just about to order some ..

Now I need to know which ones to order..

Help !!!!!

Of course your dependent that the suppliers have actually used a picture of the 1200 GS /GSA header on their website. :augie

Dug out a picture of my previous Remus headers on the old bike if it helps. :aidan

I have a set like those pictured under Nippy which fit no problem and do enhance the bike performance but cannot fit either BMW or SW Motech (as pictured in next post) engine bars.

... The "Nippy" Headers you have pictured on top AREN'T Remus, I believe the ones with the lambda sensors "on the flat" may be the Motad alternative, at £200 as opposed to the Remus set at £299. (Pipecraft or Keihan would other possible manufacturers)

... Remus headers, above labelled "Motorworks", have the lambdas clearly positioned on the angled down-pipe. However the lambda sensor cables are a bloody tight stretch "to fit" when in this position.

... Thunder has posted a great shot of how the Remus' tubes will fit with S&W bars

... They will also fit with Hepco & Becker bars :eyesdown , albeit the sensor position is tight ... erm ... as is the cable :D

... Check out the Motad site :eyesdown

http://www.motad.co.uk/product.php?prod=BMW+R1200GS+Replacement+downpipes+and+Cat+Box

... They clearly state: - Stainless steel replacement downpipe and collector unit without the Catalyst.will fit with the Original Silencer. Reduces weight significantly and mid range power is stronger. Gives the option for further improvements with an aftermarket silencer. Fits with BMW and most/all popular crashbars

... Do you have Pipecraft, or Keihan tubes perhaps?

With no markings on the pipes I'm at a loss, nothing sesems to fit thats for sure. The short piece of pipe is the problem sitting about an inch to far from the engine block preventing the crash fixing to the plate under the bash plate, sadly the other side to thunder's picture.

... Ahha the pipes ain't marked :blast

... We can at least establish that it's S&W bars if they "strap" under the sump guard. Maybe Thunder can shed some more light.

Bit of head scratching going on, if there is a "strap" running under and bolted through the bash plate it sounds like you have SW Motech bars and I've never heard of problems with them and Remus headers.

You need to be a subscriber to post pictures which would help but if your not going to subscribe mail some to me at rgilleratgmaildotcom and I'll post them.
