fitting road tyres

like many on here I never use my GS off road and so dont need the dual purpose tyres. I am thinking of fitting normal road tyres such as BT45s

Anyone done the same thing? Would it bother you when looking to buy a second hand GS if it had road tyres on it?

Have had Conti Road Attacks, & currently Roadsmart's, on my GSA.
Both are excellent tyres, but I fail to see why I'd worry about what may or may not happen when I come to sell the bike.
I used these tyres because they perform well, not for some aesthetic reason.

The 19" front limits the road tyre options but Ive had a Maxxis SuperMax touring on the back with Bridgestone trail tyre on the front & the bike was great. I then had Maxxis trails at both ends they were not so great. Ive now got Metzeler Tourance on both ends with no handling issues that affect me. Its only got <5mm chicken strips because UK roads wont let me go fast enough to rub them away.

I haven't checked but I doubt B'stone do an 045 for a GS?

Michelin Pilot Road 3s are superb tyres on the GS. I have the trail version but it looks pretty much like the road version, think the maximum power rating is lower, not a problem on a GS. They also give you amazing confidence in the wet.

No chicken strips on the back now, a little to get there on the front.

Knobbly tyres are more likely to put me off buying a bike. Conti Trail Attacks are great tyres.

For shallow peeps it will matter I think.

Aesthetics sell a bike so you need to paint all the interior walls magnolia..no...sorry...that's the house.

Ahem. If the bike looks the biz, you will get more for it. Looking all rugged like does improve its looks. But anyone with 1g of common sense will know they can haggle a bit if the tyres need replacing.

It's a buyers market, and any farkels and goodies will help sell a bike quickly but you won't necessarily recoup money - in the same way tyres add to the "adventure image" but it certainly won't be a deal breaker...maybe fewer initial enquiries Vs a bike with everything for the same price

PS I certainly would compromise what I fit now, based on what peeps think when I come to sell. Bugga them - with the tyres on it you like you probably won't want to sell it anyway

Pilot roads fine, bt45's are crossplys and definitely not recommended for a gs

I bought my present bike with conti trail attacks as i tend not to do much off road. Took the bike in for service and received phone call stating that the tyres were delaminating (the dealer only fitted them in january as the previous owner had off road tyres on), this was in march and i had only done about 200 miles on them (bought the bike in february) dealer fitted tourances free of charge as thats what they had in but i would have no problem in buying a bike with road tyres and will probably go to them when the tourances run out

Looking good on PR3s, had them previously on my F800ST and for the last 2000 miles on my GS. Wouldn't think twice about buying a GS with road tyres, but that's personal preference.

We had an evening chat at the club last winter from a tech manager at Bridgestone, and I'm trying to remember exactly what road tyre he recommended. I would have sworn it was a BT45.

As for "would it put people off?" - trouble is there are large numbers of posers riding GS bikes, hence all the ally boxes and shortarses riding the adventure version as a road bike. My gut feel was that the image of the bike might suffer with road tyres

Anyone who is buying a used GS to go off road is going to already have fixed ideas about what tyres to use. No point trying to second-guess his wishes. Just fit what suits you (sir).

but like i said - stick the tyres on that YOU want (feck everyone else's opinion as to the "best tyre") and worry about it when you sell...
