This afternoon I started to fit my riding aids and found very few fit. I use a bar mounted ram system and discovered the bars are bigger than any I have seen before. The U bolts I have available will not go round the bars, one I opened up to suit but its wider than the slots in the ram. GPS mounting aborted with just a small mark on the bars for my efforts.
GPS tapping point, there are two plugs with caps tie wrapped inside the beak. I untied one to see if its a live accessory socket? It has the same 3 pins as the old GS but the very expensive plug from Nippy Normans is a different shape. Perhaps its not the right socket at all.
I have fitted GPS mounts to my last seven bikes without a problem but Im finding this one a bit difficult.
Power is not a problem as I have several Hella plugs and the socket is in a handy location for SatNav as a last resort.

Time to trawl the internet, perhaps a bar clamp ball is the solution, just bet the BMW clamp screw is more than the 8mm Ram ball

Hi.
I presume that you have the basic GS without the satnav prep? In which case you can buy the just mounting bar that fits inside the screen as a seperate item from BMW.
You can then mount your sat nav on that bar.
Cant help you on the under beak sockets sorry,i dont get my bike till Wednesday:D

I use a Garmin GPSMap60, which suits the bar Ram mount perfectly. Its tall and narrow so will not fit too well above or below the instruments. I have just searched through Touratechs ram stuff and if the Bar clamp bolt is 8mm they do a ball which should be just right.

FWIW, there is a socket for the Satnav on the r/hand side under the beak trim, taped or cable tied to the bodywork.
