Fitting Shock Cover

Could any kind person please tell me best way to fit the black plastic shock mud cover thingy?

I broke the first one trying to open it up enough to slip over the shock top section. Do you ned to remove the shocker completely to fit it and if so how is this done.

Heat it with a hair drier first to soften it up and make it more flexible. Then pry it open and slip it onto the shock.

I put it in the oven at 100C for ten minutes and it slipped over a treat.

BWM technician said stick it in boiling water, if you remove the rear wheel it gives you more room to play/fiddle with it
