I have just fitted a pair of PIAA spots thanks to Nick Marshall.
Where do I find the correct place to put the feed wire for the switch so that the lights can only come on if the ignition is ON?
At the moment the switch is powered all the time from the +ve side of the battery & the spots can be switched on at any time by anybody.I am not too good with electrics.
I await words of wisdom?

Get yourself a little 12v iluminating screwdiver from car accessory shop and test each wire from the ignition barrel until you find one that becomes live with the ignition on.

For example the positive going to the horn should do the trick as it dosen't work with ignition off. With this wire you won't need to go digging around the barrel.

Tapped into green wire on diagnostic plug, this switches on & off with ignition, took a wire from here to the spot light switch. Now I can have the spots on or off but only when the ignition is on. :bounce1

If they really are "spot lights" or even driving lights, ie ones that you use to supplement main beam, then you should have taken a fused live feed from the positive terminal of the battery, switched via a relay tapped into the main beam feed. That would enable the lamps to illuminate with main beam and extinguish on dip.

You could also include a switch in the circuit to enable a choice of whether or not to have the lamps on with main beam.

I've just finished fitting my 1100X's. If they are spot/driving lights then legally they should only be capable of use when the main beam is on. If they are fog lights then you can make like a NovaNob and drive around with them when sidelights are on. I removed the switch from the PIAA loom and took the white power feed direct to the headlamp and used the Scotchlock connector in the kit to connect to the main beam power, also white. Apparently earlier posts have stated that the PIAA switch is not waterproof. E-mail me if I can help further.

Beginning to think you dont like Scotchlock....would I be right :D :D

enabb... Solderer and heat shrink fettishist (is that spelt right ?)

Dot250,

I'd get that connection from the green diagnostic socket disconnected as soon as possible. The green wire is connected directly into the main control module for your bike it's not designed to power anything other than a diagnostic unit. It isn't fused and any problem will blow the output from your control module...seriously expensive.

Quick undo that Scotchlock..........................

Then throw the feckin' thing over next doors wall and out of sight!

...Don't let the smoke out :nono Even the optional accessory sockets aren't fused but I'd have thought they were a safer bet than the Diagnostic socket.
