Fitting the BMW Tank bag

Does anyone have any suggestions for what type of glue would be a good option for replacing the sticky pad?

See I took mine off to respray the plastic bits and while the original sticky pad stayed stuck solid as a rock for 10k miles, the removal process kind of destroyed it's stickiness...

I'd forget about looking for glue and order a replacement pad from your local BMW dealer. Much safer in the long run.

Hiya, I've noticed else where that you can buy replacement pads from BMW, expect to pay £5-£10. If you are using the bag the whole time they are probably a good idea.

Short of that my solution is working fine and if you have a standard seat you could attach the straps to the bar at the from of the seat for a much more secure option.

Oh and remember to let your new velcro pad set before attaching the tank bag, I think the recomendation id 24 hour, but check with the dealer.

Thanks for the suggestions, but out here in the third world the dealers know less about the bikes and components than the customers... If I were to arrive, part number in hand, they would first deny the part exists, then claim it cannot be ordered without a new bag, then admit it can be ordered but claim it'll take 6 months to arrive and costs £100...

being self sufficient is a necesary skill here... *sigh*... some kind of epoxy maybe?...

Glue for a tank bag pad

I would use a simple type of neoprene glue - you spead a thin film on each surface, let it dry for a few minutes and then it will stick 'on impact.' As the glue is soluble in petrol it is unlikely to harm the paintwork - it certainly is OK for the fabric of the pad. If it doesn't work you can remove it with a dab of petrol but I would be surprised if you have to.

I've got some 3M high strength double sided foam tape that's supposedly designed for use with rubber/plastic... Plan-A is to use that... Plan-B is the neoprene glue, thanks for the suggestion Brian ... Plan-C will be to wait for the dealer to have one sent over via asthmatic carrier pigeon or whatever it is they use to get the parts sent here from Germany...
