Fitting Q:

Just been reading the instrukshuns for this, which in true TT style, are a bit light. So I need to ask about fitting it.
- The TT tank has 2 x stop cocks at the 2 lowest points either side of the bike. These feed the main tank.
- Now the TT instructions say to drill the main tank and install two hoses to it, and I guess these go to the stop cocks as above. Instructions are not clear here.
- I don't like the idea of drilling the main tank as it introduces potential leak points and makes for a lot of work.

I'd prefer to fit it another way. So here goes:
- The original tank has a vent pipe. Surely I can run this, via a T piece to the aux tank stop cocks. This way the original tank is filled by the aux tank as fuel is used.
- Before refuelling, clearly I would have to close the air vent on the aux tank BEFORE opening the original tank cap otherwise fuel will drain from aux to main and potentially overflow onto the floor.

Have I missed anything?
Why on earth would I have to drill the main tank as per TT instructions?

Ta !
Mike.

i would give your way a go, thats the way i have my custom made tank rigged up.
sometimes the fuel will syphon down to the lowest filler cap, but if you fill that tank first theres no problem.

Have a look on ADVrider......there is a section on there about fitting the TT tank and "plumbing it in" the way that you are talking about.
It does work that way, others have done it....the MaxCool tank also uses your theory.

a friend of mine built it for me, it fits opposite side to the exhaust holds 7.5lts and is usable as a rack for my andy strapz.
Similar to what i used on sib extreme on my xt660,this is mk. 2 on an xcountry, worked very well on this yrs trip, 11500mls /36days, exept when the temp. got above around 40c,there wasn,t enough vacuum to suck the fuel through, i had to blow it through manually and it always happned at the end of the day in the middle of nowhere.!!!!

good luck
