Hi - hope someone can advise please? I’ve bought a variocase top box adaptor from a BMW eBay dealer; the plastic mount fits correctly, but the support arms seem to be the wrong shape at the end to bolt into where I feel they should go. Hopefully photos are clear. Can anyone advise? A similar thread appeared earlier this year, but I am none the wiser how these could bolt to the bike.

Thanks.

Iain

Looks correct part number for bike
Have you tried lowering the angle of the support as you line it up?
Hopefully someone who has fitted one will be along soon

Its been a long time (a very long time!) since I fitted mine in 2007.
Looking at your picture I seem to think that the mounting bracket is upside down.
I also seem to think that the captive nut is held in a flexy or rubber doughnut?
Start by loose fit the bracket, and then see how close the top plate is to fitting on top.

That’s the problem - when lined up for the top case plate the supporting arms are at the angle shown. Seems to me I have been supplied the wrong part, but hoping someone else has seen a similar situation…. I wonder if the wrong part has crept into the supply chain

Let me finish my tea, and ill nip out to the shed and look at the one i have in there

Thank you - your support arms have a very different end - so I wonder which fitting kit I need?! It seems I have the right order specification for my bike, the correct order delivered, but the wrong part?

Photos taken to resemble yours…….

According to realoem, the part number for the bracket should be 71607687937

The number you have is 71607707239

Both come back as the same item

looking at yours , apart from the welding looking very poor, the mounting plates are definatly at the wrong angle

i'd be sending it back

Thanks - I agree! Still a bit confused why the support is wrong, I guess an error at BMW somewhere

Hi Iain,

Please find attached a set of photo's taken of my rear carrier mounting bracket from my 2012 R1200 GS Twin cam K25. As far as I am aware, my bike was supplied with a full set Vario luggage fitted by BMW from new. Hope these help.

Thank you -that is the set up I am after, but the holes won’t line up at the bike end to bolt in. I’ll return!

Iain

Just to update - I returned the item received and am in the process of getting a refund. I ordered the same item from Motorworks and the correct parts arrived. Tedious experience, but I got there

Apologies to hijack this thread. However when you fit this supporting bracket do you have to cut a circular indent into the plastic. With reference to the original picture from Iain, the plastic trim curves around the bolt hole. Mine is currently more straight.
