Five days in Scotland

Thanks all - no idea how to share a route via satnav (which I rarely use), so that's why I try and describe the route in words & road numbers.

Good report Flintlock. Six of us where in the area last week as well though we stayed in the Buccleuch in Moffat. Mostly lucky with the weather until we went down to England to do Hartside summit and ride down towards Middleton on Teasdale. The weather improved when we headed North again!!

What an amazing trip.

I know many of the roads you used, from previous trips I have done, but you put together a blinder of a tour there, wonderful.

I had hoped to be back in the Highlands this year, but May, June and even early September looked pretty dodgy weather wise, ahh well, I'll just have to wait until next spring.

Amazing photos, thanks for posting.

Nice report, thanks. So many familiar scenes and so many more I have yet to see. I hope to return soon. Scotland is a beautiful country.

They missed!!
Nope there are pretty big chunks out of it and a big concrete arrow cast into the ground just before you reach the wall The shed at the bottom of the wall was the station for the disposal team which didn't leave until about 2010. About a mile or so along the road towards Penwhirn reservoir there is an observation hut and just beyond that there is an area to the right were they used to build a mock factory and bomb it. You can't really see the bomb holes when you are on the road but they are clearly visible in Google Maps satellite view. I was on that road again at about the same time as Flintlock and they are widening the road to allow better access to the many wind turbines up there. If you ever access the road beware of sharp flints (and nails if you use the single track road from New Luce to Newtown Stewart). We have had to stop and repair punctures on that road a few times and last May and this September......on the same bike!!

There are loads of Military bits and bobs round Stranraer near. Dunragit is West Freugh Airport which used to have a Jet Provost abandoned in the field beside it. I remember in the Early 1980's coming into lough Ryan and they were dismantling HMS Eagle the (slightly larger) sister carrier to HMS Ark Royal. Its an interesting area which we often fly through to get to other places!!
