Anywhere but here!
I've seen some of you asking how to use the BMW puncture repair kit and further questions about it's reliability.

So here are a series of pictures (taken by Jon) as I fixed a puncture on his bike in Spain while there in May 2004.

First remove the offending nail

Then using the serrated tool in the kit, make the hole bigger. It should be about 4mm in dia. when finished.

Next put plenty of glue on the tool tip.

Then fit the plug onto the tool.

Now you need to put plenty of glue onto the plug.

Finally push the plug into the hole with the tool. Wait for a few minutes for the glue to dry and cut the protruding part of the plug off.

Pump the tyre back up and test for leaks with some 'spit', you're now ready to ride off.

THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX but Jon did 600 miles before he had a new tyre fitted. I wouldn't recommend that you ride at high speed either.

Puncture Repair

An excellent step by step tutorial Blue Sweeper; I'll try and memorise it.
Thanks

jack.pe :- have you been in the pub all evening? see previous posting for answer.

puncture fix

Blue Sweeper's right,it worked for me too-much to my surprise:eek:
Got the tyre fixed properly at a later date.

I've ridden round france before on a tyre 'temporarily' fixed like this.

Took it easy for a day or so - then forgot about it for the next two weeks.

It was still holding out when the tyre was changed.

No guarentees tho....

The only guarrantee I got was this!

Puncture repair photo series part 2

Push the tool with the plug on through the hole -

Pull out the tool which leaves the plug in the tyre.

Leave the glue to dry for a few minutes, then pump up the tyre.

Part of the plug is left protruding from the tyre, cut off this with the supplied knife. The job is done.

Here is what it looked like before :

THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX - GET THE REPAIR SORTED ASAP

Excellent thread - quite enjoyed that ! I've been told before that the BMW repair kit is brilliant.

Can you get replacements for the kit?

I used mine last week for the first time (worked well) ... got through a fair bit of the glue and the air cartridges.
Can you just buy the bits as replacements? or must you buy a complete kit?

I see that Hein Gericke do the same kit (Rema) for £12.99, so not a problem either way.

By the way...

There is also a section on this site under "Links" which gives instructions on using the kit.
I printed this and put it with the toolkit. Followed the instructions and all worked well.

Actually, there are also instructions with the kit but in very small print... so for old sods like me whose eyesight is failing:( the ones I printed made life easier.
