FJR1300 - New pony in the stable

Probably a bit crazy but just put deposit down on a 2008 fjr1300 with 35k miles and I have not seen it yet.

Mate mine was down in the dealer and checked it out for me. Price was lower than most and the daft led lights all over it make look worse. Last owner used do charity runs so hard all the flashing lights fitted. These will be promptly removed and wiring checked



Anyway hope have it dropped up in week as my van is in the garage being serviced and the bike dealer is 4hours away

It will replace my 250 enduro and take place beside my Tenere 700 as a dedicated 2 up tourer for long trips with my son. Enduro wasnt been used so said need shift it on



Plans

- remove lights and siren

- polish and remove glue from hi Vis decals

- valve check and throttle sync

- full once over



Mods

- heated grips of not fitted

- inner pannier bags

- maybe a light blue stripe decal along the side. Seen one locally and looked very nice.

Check and ACF50- all the electrical connections behind the head stock AND the back of the fuse box where the immobiliser system plugs in

I have seen some schite finishes to electrical stuff but the earlier ones of these were totally horrendous

They corroded really badly because the salt vapour would get up the front of the engine and attack the loom connections

P.S. Great bike otherwise

I will heave a look at them cheers, plan is strip fairings and clean all connectors, then coat them in dialectric grease. I went for Gen2 as there seem be few niggles and valve issues on the Gen 1.
 
We had 2x fjr 1300’s in BBMW although we sold one recently due to there weight
They are quite a heavy bike
But a great go anywhere bike
So you’ll enjoy especially touring on it

My son had one loved it, then moved to Kawasaki GTR1400 bot heavy machines

I heard that alright, hopefully not much more that a honda blackbird

One thing to watch out for is the suspension linkage. It needs to be stripped regularly and the bearings greased, if not they can seize and actually break the wish bone which doesn’t bear thinking about. Enjoy but watch your license 🤣

Just noticed the big top box fitted to your new bike. The mounting and rear carrier is not the strongest and can craic the frame from vibration and from a passenger leaning back on the box. If you notice my picture you can see I bought a support frame which secures the mounting plate better and stops the frame cracking, a very worthwhile investment to buy 👍

i seen the bracket look non stock but didnt know was weak. would you have any other pics of the support bracket.

ill do some googling now
 
Nice bike, your upgrades and removal of the fairy lights etc will get it right up there.
Had my rear suspension stripped and sorted just in case. New oil front suspension, that really made a difference. You might find the throttle heavy compared to newer bikes.
Yep, you really do need to watch your speed, these are very competent at taking your license away 🤣
I took my yam top box and plate off. Not a fan of those, tend to use an ortleib bag if necessary.

Topbox was a feature my son demanded as he wants lean back and relax and not feel like falling off. Speed, ya the blackbird was similar, be riding along and not even realise speed were doing

I was looking at new shocks should it be needed down the line.

I have been asked this a number of times. it would be an interesting ride up the forest roads :)

Plan is do few 2up weekends, then maybe in summer do uk to France and Normandy beaches plus a few museums as my son wants go there.

T7 is used lot but enduro has not left the garage in over a year so really was a waste and not getting time do any trail riding

I saw him in the shooting thread, he's grown a bit alright. What age is he now John ?
