having just brought a 58 plate 800 gs ,i noticed when i went to look at the bike the first time ,the paint seemed a bit loose /bubbley on the hub ,anyway i looked at the bike twice ,eventually brought it and took it back home to clean it properly.
as i took the wheel ,off and then the discs to clean it ,the paint felt ,and sounded hollow ,so i poked it ,then a bit chipped /fell off ,so i poked it again ,and a bit more ,and so on and so on ,
nearlly all of the paint came off ,and underneath the hub had oxiydised really badly ,it was all white powder.
what a shit finish (but then you all knew that ),so i thought ,ill get the spokes out and paint it after MARK71,had removed the bearings for me .
couldnt budge them ,sprayed with wd40 (other brands available) ,tried everything .
so ended up taking round the corner to HAGONS ,got them to rebuild the wheel ,strip the hub ,and paint it ,new nipples ,and back again in a couple of days £180 (£15 for quick turn around) not to bad ,didnt want to spend that ,but by the time ive pised about buying spokes (no couldnt get them out ) sent the wheel away +,postage the hub+ postage ,its not to bad flaking paint.jpg

when i say i got hagons to rebuild the wheel ,that is with new spokes ,new nipples ,and newly painted hub ,. so today i will have a fresh ,shiny new wheel .
illpost a pic later on ,after ive picked it up at lunchtime ....

Yep, shit BMW build quality, had the rear wheel replaced under warranty on my 2010 GSA for the same reasons:blast

Wow, serious corrosion there. At a guess, I'd say that bike had been ridden on a beach fairly regularly, and not rinsed off afterwards. Mine's older than yours, and still looks almost as good as new.

002-11.jpgno because it was meant to be a cheap fix to start with ,i thought i could take the spokes out myself ,and powder coat it .
as i said i could not budge the spokes ,no way ,anyway ,so it went to hagons ,as i said ,by the time i would have brought the spokes ,or reused the old ones (not worth it in my opinion,if your renwing something ).sent off the hub plus the costs ,powder coating ,postage ,spokes ,nipples , and lets be honest ,ill never get it straight enough.
£180 to turn it round in 1 1/2 days ,thats not even a days wages ,for a perfect job .
