Flappy valve removed - now I have a machine gun

I have just taken the flappy valve out of my TC, went for a ride and it is really popping on the overrun, sounds like a machine and certainly got a few heads turning in town, is this normal with this mod? Do I need to get the mixture looked at?

Must say it feels a bit more lively, lifts the front in first and second really easily now, and I must say it sounds nice.

The flappy valve was stuck solid about half open, so wasn't helping

Pretty much normal id say you have an air leak at the link pipe, but me id leave it alone

If you don't want it sounding like a Harley, you could seal the joints with something like Holts Firegum. It's for assembling sections of exhausts and seals the joints but is easily broken when taking apart. Makes them slip together easier, too. Feels like silicone when applying.

Yes when I fitted the insert it was not particularly tight, so I guess it is leaking, will try the seal on the pipe and put it back together.

what did you fit in place of the flap? my TC has always popped on the slow down before and after flap removal,real motorbike. check for air leaks, then enjoy

I bought the stainless steel sleeve from Nippy Normans, I think it could have done with being a little bit longer IMO.

Removed the valve on mine a few weeks back, was a PITA to seal up. Took a generous application of exhaust paste. My valve was also seized up. Couldn't really notice any difference in the bike afterwards though. Fitting the power commander last week has made a huge difference though, much smoother and more responsive. Next on the list is a set of decat headers. I think from what I've read, a set for the early 1200's is what I need. Wont need my home made bit of link pipe where the flappy valve used to be.

I have one of the Nippy Normans sleeves and the length is fine.
Use the Firegum to help lube things and make sure that the silencer hanger bolt is loose while pushing the silencer pipe home. Then remember to tighten up the silencer hanger bolt. You'll see very little of the sleeve if it's where it should be.
Stu, the early, SC, headers will not fit with your TC silencer, with or without the sleeve. The bore of the pipe is different as well as the length.
You need either TC headers or else a complete SC system including a silencer. Starting to get expensive, eh?

Loosen up the muffler strap hanger clamp and slide back as necessary.

Lol, guess I got the wrong info regarding the headers, thanks for the advice. These bikes have a unique ability to empty your bank account.

I bought an Akraprovic full titanium system for £450. Used but 70% off retail. Of course its bling but with baffles its actually less noisy than the OEM silencer with catalyst removed

Moral. Shop around and avoid buying bling at the shops.

Ditto I did the same Bendy Toy I've still yet to fit mine but I was just wondering are your headers made up of the individual components slid into each other and held with springs ? If so did you use anything to form a gasket between each piece ? I've bought some ceramic exhaust paste to do the job as it contains no metal in it to react such as copper grease to react with the different metals and should still be easy enough to take apart should I need to unlike fire gum / gum gum exhaust sealer what's your thoughts ? Mine is all connected with sliding joints and springs. I used the correct fitting paste, which looked like grey anti seize grease, but the pipes have jammed up solid. They are stunningly thin walled so I'm probably stuck with a one piece system that fits one bike.

Its a noisy system as "standard". I fitted two baffles that fitted into the stub pipes but they really bunged it up and I had to cut and weld the bend angle.

I ended with one of these in each outlet bolted with a spacer to sit the baffle in the middle of the outlet hole. The sound is very reasonable. No need to bung it solid with baffle.

Cheers for that Bendy toy I notice from your pics of your bike you've got the double barrel shotgunie style end cans which they don't make any more I have the BMW stamped akrapovic end can which I hope will be Little quieter lol the front half headers and Balance pipe are the same, might have to contact akrapovic uk for some of the grey paste stuff did you buy new exhaust gasket rings for the header pipe to cylinder heads. ? I used the old exhaust port gasket rings but one isn't 100% and causes more over-run popping than normal. Easy enough to sort when I get around to it.

I have a "flappyless full titanium Akro" but i couldn't describe it as less noisy by a long shot - it has a more than healthy growl...... my riding buddy yesterday likened the noise mine puts out to a Spitfire.

The smaller cans raise the exhaust note. Without baffles its VERY not quiet but more Heinkel or Messerschmitt than Spitfire. With one baffles its not bad at all around town. With two baffles it's almost quiet.
