oops!

Strange grunging noise quickly followed by locked rear wheel.

Fortunately :augie only doing 80mph, and the nice wet M6 allowed me to skid over to the hard shoulder before coming to a stop.

Final drive bearings are OK, as are the "paralever" (although there is a slight amount of play).

I'm hoping the damage to the swing arm is fairly superficial and can be tidied up with a bit of wet & dry :D

Drive shaft is goosed of course. :eek £££££££

Had some fun dragging the bike onto the recovery truck!

That's impressive.

a. that amount of damage

b. that you're still alive.

Well done on both counts. :thumb2

that must have left a couple of pretty heftie skidmarks on the road and in yer pants....:D

might aswell get the uprated HPN one....:thumb2

:eek::eek::eek:

What was the mileage on that bike?

Think I'll whip the gator of mine and take a look at the drive shaft.

Glad you're ok Paul:eek:

Don't worry about a new gaitor.................looks like it was only there for show anyway:augie ....as it hasn't stopped any water and mud getting in:D

Glad you are OK!

I am happy mine was at walking pace. You driveshaft looks as rusty as mine did.

I think a warning to pull pack your gaitors and if there is rust on the shaft check the joint ASAP :rob

Mileage: 45200

The HP2 swingarm isn't sealed - there's a drain hole - so although water can get in it shouldn't hang around for long.

UJ was a tad rusty though. Strong smell of burning plastic in the area so I reckon the gaitor was flying round in there for some time:

But a bit more than wet & dry needed here (hopefully get away without a new swingarm):

Ohhh that's got me a bit scared now had you heard any noises from transmission, how many miles has the bike done? think I should pull the gaiter back and check in there!
Well done staying on that one, could have been bad !:comfort

Yes. But what to look for?

The bearings are sealed. So how do you check grease content?

There was no "play" or "grunchiness" in mine 1600 miles ago (inspected during f/d oil change). Yes, the shaft was rusty, but it has been for the last 20 thou miles.

I'd welcome suggestions on preventative maintanance for my new shaft (other than avoiding river crossings):thumb
