My current lid Nolan N84 is now a couple of years old and getting a little battered, so thinking of getting a new lid for best, and keeping the current one for the commute (why are non bikers so keen to fiddle and look at our lids)

Anyhow, wondering about going for a flip front - the main reason being is that I get hay fever for a large part of the year and my nose itches like hell, so being able to flip the front at a junction, quick itch and away seems like a good idea..

What are peoples thoughts on flip front, good, bad or indifferent all views welcomed

I've had a bmw system 6 for 6 months now and love the flip front. Sadly I'm having to mod the insides a bit as I get a hot spot on my forehead. Great helmet other than that and I'm sold on flip fronts from now on.

Got a Nolan N-com little over a year ago, done in excess of 10k with it on and love it, only slight down side is the increase in noise

Got a Shoei Multitech. Very comfortable and secure. Space for intercom system. Good ventilation and it's got the wisper kit thats better to fit during the winter months as it reduces the airflow. Pinlock insert and 2 visors, smoke and clear. All of the above is in the box when bought new.

Another vote for the Multitech. its bloody expensive, but you can see where the money has gone. Quality is streets ahead of BMW system/Schuberth which seem crappy by comparison, let alone the off-brand competitors..

Been using Multitech's at work for a couple of years, they took over from the Synchrotec.. also a great lid....

I've gone and bought my own... that's saying something for them :)

Got a dark smoke visor for it, as the light smoke still a bit too light in bright sunlight :thumb

I posted this elsewhere on the forum but its worth repeating. This helmet is brilliant and great value-for-money:

"I have just bought a Shark Evoline Series 2 and what a cracking bit of kit :thumb2 with the finish being right up there with my Shoei Hornet DS and the fit perfect (I am an XL in both Shoei and Arai and the XL Evoline fit is just spot_on). The flip works a damned sight better than the flip on my old Schuberth C3 and the ability to rotate the chinbar to the back of the helmet is priceless. It is beautifully engineered and the chinbar integrates perfectly in balance and aesthetically giving a true open helmet appearance and feel.

The visor has 9 well positioned indents which really do work and the inbuilt sunscreen comes right down to the bridge of the nose giving super eye protection. The neck-strap is of the 'ski-boot ratchet' variety and works simply but well and is also a doddle to undo with a gloved hand. Finally, the field-of-view is huge and 'lifesavers' are not a chore.

There is a great selection of colours and designs and you can pick one up for £250 or so. What a winner. :bow"

I also tried the Multitech and found the chinbar too tight on my chin whilst the Evoline has bags of room. It just depends on your chin size Brucie. :augie

Flip Front

Dave, if you're happy with the fit of your current Nolan, try one of their flip-fronts. I'm currently on my third Nolan flip-front, an N101 and its a great lid. I particularly like Nolans compound pivot arrangement which places the front of the lid low and close to the helmet in the open position, not stuck out in front like the single pivot designs. (if that makes sense?). Pinlock visor is standard, ventilation is good, maybe more noisy than a standard fill-face, but I always use earplugs so not a problem for me!

Cheers everyone

I've got a autocom system that I want to fit, currently fitted to my Nolan. Guessing I might need to get some more bits so it'll fit into a flip front, anyone got an autocom installed in their flip front?

Flip front

Hi, yes I've got an Autocom fitted to my Nolan N101. Just enough room for the mike behind the chinguard.
Cheers
Chris

We've got system 6s which fit me perfectly but my husband prefers the fit of his arai. we have autocoms fitted for bike to bike, garmin and music and they work just fine. Just be careful that you test the kit when you fit it - I spent 8 months with a faulty boom mike on my headset in one helmet and being moaned at for not talking loudly enough by himself. Now it has been replaced a whisper will activate it.

The only thing to watch is when you have put on the flip front you need to adjust the mike. The system 6 can be a bit stiff to raise till it has "worn in" but at least it doesn't come up unexpectedly.
