front discs are rattling , I can feel movement between the bolts both ways ie side ways and more so back and forward. Disc faces are in goog condition and within tolerance . Is it possible to get new bolt/washer kits or are the discs u/s?

u can get new bobbin kits for the discs from motorworks. I was in the same position last week having noticed play in my front discs but the bmw specialist said they were meant to be like that - he'd seen alot worse. since they were bolted in they were not going anywhere.

if you're really concerned take it to a bmw specialist for a check over.

did you change yours? motorworks want nearly £20 per side!
brakes still work ok , its just the rattle is a bit worrying.

Yes, that's what they cost.

But you can carry on as you are, save yourself some money.

Oh, by the way. The disc mounting holes will wear oval and then the mounts on the wheel can get a nice chamfer. But never mind, you've saved yourself £40 :clap

Replaced them on mine, and new discs, still rattle:mad:

Disc Rattle

Have just replaced y front disc bobbins as I was getting embarrassed with the rattle going over the speed humps in our street.

I didn't have to remove the front wheel.

I removed the old bobbins and bolts, ran a tap through each thread to clean it and then replaced with new with a spot of thread lock.

I did find that the new bobbins and washers still allowed the disc to rattle, so did check the condition of each lug and all appeared OK.

My solution (right or wrong!) was to use the old spring washer AND the new spring washer. Brakes still work as before (good that is) and the discs do not rattle now, or though only just and there is still 'float' on the disc.

Oldies are always best

Ear plugs much cheaper.

Have I missed something here; my discs don't float - they sink straight away. Should I change them? Will floating discs work better in the wet? :D

For those who own 90's Ducati's, the discs are not supposed to rattle so much on a BM GS:D Their fully floating Brembo's used to have a few mill play out of the box.

I once turned my bobbins round 90 degrees as this is the part that wears 1st on the GS. As they are not as floating as per K11 and R11 RT's they didn't move much after that.

It's the wheel is worn,as the man said,disc off,file flat,refit,feck off:thumb2

Do a search, there's a good thread on it with pictures and everything
