2014 WC collected from Cannon BMW in Essex this morning at 08:01hrs, zero mileage and plenty of rain for the "Run In". Packed-off with a hot coffee/cheery smile from the lads there (thanks again Adam, top job as always (can't recommend highly enough to others)) and North I head...

I've been riding bikes for just under 30 years from schoolboy Motorcross through to Superbikes (BMW S100RR, 'Blades and such like) via Supermoto (Husqvarna Nuda 900R, etc) but this is my first Boxer GS (I've ridden plenty on the smaller-engined variants).

Personally I don't think that 100 miles IS too far to travel for good fish and chips, lunch on the Quayside at Wells-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk.

Thereafter, a meandering route back through Suffolk and into Essex stopping for Afternoon Tea at Finchingfield on The Green.

225 miles in total. In the Rain. In "Rain Mode".

What have I learned?

Apparatus:

2014 BMW R1200GS WC

Method:

Get as many of the "Running In" miles as you can under your belt on a day off.

Result:

A dirty bike with 225 miles on the clock and a rider who frankly ate too many chips at lunchtime.

Conclusion:

Please keep in mind that, for the last year, my day-to-day road 'tool' has been a Husqvarna Nuda 900R supermoto, a blinding bike, very fast B road machine and particularly in it's tricked-out trim.

For those worried about reports of clunking gearboxes, tank slappers, poor fitting parts and other issues of a negative nature ~ don't. It is a fantastic machine, gearbox is sweet as a nut, steering in precise and machine as a whole is extremely stable, possibly the most stable bike that I have ridden at speed which is something given I'm used to Sportsbikes.

The engine is an absolute peach ~ power everywhere, torque by the bucket load, free-revving, extremely responsive, great fuelling and soundtrack from the Akra (without baffle in my case) is awesome.

Handling ~ absolutely superb; whether it's the chassis, the suspension, the electronics or the whole package, it is simply stunning... the bike inspires confidence, encourages progressive riding and is extremely forgiving. It can make a very average rider look very good.

What came as the biggest surprise to me was simply the amount of power on tap from the WC engine and the fact that, against everything that I thought the GS stood for, this bike has a(n) "Hooligan" element!!!

There, I've typed this and now want to get back out on it ~ is a great, great piece of kit and I could not be more positive about it.

If in doubt, go Test Ride (Cannon BMW have a red one on Test Ride, isn't quite as quick as the white ones apparently).

Anyway, cannot recommend highly enough, an awesome machine.

Actually, I'm undecided between colours to order (and accessories) so am keen to see as many pics as possible. The OP made reference to having a white bike so I'd like to see it, especially being a 2014.

I agree, pictures are needed but I'm having a little IT-type difficulty.

Here's one when in the shop.

White/Boxes/Akra/Engine Bars.

Ahhh, have worked it out, I need to re-size em (which I'll do when near a PC).

'Personal Computer' not 'Police.....

Sounded a bit negative to me...............

Glad you have a good one and enjoyed yourself in the rain! Keep up the good work and positive comments.

I love my bike it puts a big smile on my face when i ride it and it is only let down by the gear change.

Oh, and I LOVED the Continental Trail Attacks!

Pre-scrubbed (were they? 'ish) and confidence inspiring, seem very soft compound so may get 500 miles out of them I guess.

Finchingfield for Tea on the Green.

This was as about as far 'off road' as I went on the first day.

Was "Gnarly"

Did I mention that the WC is awesome?

Astounding.

Glad you enjoyed it so much. Mine still feels awesome after 4000 miles and a 2 hour mind-blowing blast on an S1000RR.

And the Akra is a sound investment.....geddit?

From pictures, I wanted red... but the grey one in the dealership I saw had a hell of a lot of presence somehow, I must admit!

Of course, by the time I get one there'll probably be a whole load of different colours...

Why is a (short) ride report, complete with pictures, in the technical section.

The accuracy of this report can only be validated by where you bought your fish n chips at wells..... :)
