Out and about!
Taking my son to Vegas for 4 days midweek. Last time we went together he was 18 and now he is 34. Has anyone any experience of staying downtown instead of on the strip. Guess things have changed in the last 16 years. Any recommendations welcome, 4 nights, I have only ever stayed at the Mandolin Bay.

We stayed at Harrahs last year and it was fine. If you go off strip you’d be advised to read reviews as some are definitely under par

We’ve also stayed at Ellis Island hotel which is only a short walk from the strip. It was cheaper at the time …… ok but you get what you pay for tbf. If you have transport I would eat off strip, there’s some good breakfast diners about that the locals use ( google will show you) a lot of the strip food is overpriced crap although Gordon Ramsay’s burgers were very good

We’ve stayed twice at the Staybridge suites on Dean Martin drive (2019 and 2023), about a mile off the strip, but they have a free shuttle bus that runs you to the strip (New York New York), free parking for the hire car (shopping trips with wifey) and we’d grab an Uber back when we were finished which never cost more than about $15. It is just opposite the Raiders stadium.
