About to change my visor from tinted to normal and I have a fog city insert for it.

Any hints on how "not to feck a simple task" up?

The clear visor is new as I used the tinted one from the beginning. Can it go on the wrong way? ... BTW it's a shoei mutlitec.

All Shoei Multitechs I know of - mine included came with 2 visors. One being tinted and should have "pinlock" visor inserts. Ask your supplier where they are! Fog City are good if fitted properly but pinlocks are fantastic and can be fitted in seconds by cack handed individuals (like me) in seconds.

At the risk of starting controversy :D over 'pinlock vs fog city', I have to say the Pinlock I had was a complete waste of space. In fact, it was worse than useless and misted up on the INSIDE of the Pinlock shield no matter how I fitted it or tweaked it. Went back to a Fog City and no more problems... :nenau

Might have just got a duff one...

they have changed the design of the fogcity and i have found that they do not stay stuck to the inside of me visor both with and without pinlock...............so i have now started usin pin lock.........had no hassle with the pinlock have a dark, light tint and a clear...............just change em as and when.................janie

I have a shoei and it came with a pinlock - I couldn't live with it. The top of the pinlock screen was just in my line of sight.

Hi Tom,

These can be a bugger to fit mate  Obviously take your visor out so its stand alone. When you offer up the fog city to the visor you will find it easier to fit if you attatch it from the middle and work your way out. Make sure you dont push your visor out of shape when pressing down on the adhesive adge.

What can happen, is if when fitting the fog city you have not got the original visor in the shape it is when fitted to your lid, you will create to much space between the visor and fog city. This could distort your view like looking through the bottom of a bottle. If when fitting the fog city you bend your original visor in to much, when fitted to the lid it could pop the adhesive and then it will mist up inside.

I have buggered two of these before so hence my advice. The fog city is also very easily marked. Just take your time. Read the instructions and then read the instructions and then read them again :D

Good luck mate :thumb2

Fog City - definately better than the Pin-Lock sheete from my experiences. I'll never buy Pin-Lock again. Not only it kills the fog visor, it kills your visor too - dust, gravel, sand gets between the visor and fog layer, they start to scratch each other and fek up in a short term.

Fog City gluable any time for me. Then the fog layer and visor are fixed to each other, no mechanical movement of pin tighteting, no scratching :thumb2

1) clean throughoutly the visor from inside before puting a new Fog City on. Altough I highly recommend only to put it on the brand new visor. Bin your current used visor and Pinlock fekker layer, buy a new visor + Fog City layer is the best solution IMHO.

2) You need to bend Fog Cit into same shape as the visor on glueing. Better if you bend it slightly even more that the central part attaches first and then the corners. With your finger press all the FogCity's corner surface over, to be sure all cornerline has had a good contact with the visor.

3) Clean carefully with soft cloth only from inside when doing maintenance. Pinlock fog layer also is very fragile on cleaning btw, scratches are easy to come, but that's the problem with all the anti-fog surfaces. If you take good care Fog City it will last the lifetime of your visor and keeps your vision maximum, while Pinlock feks up everything with scratching from between the layers in a short time and you frequently keep replacing both the visor and fog layer (£££).

These are my personal experiences with both systems anyways.

Hi Tom,

Follow the instructions, take a bit of care and it's dead easy. To line up a FC I sometimes put little pieces of sellotape on the outside of the visor. Helps to get the FC jined up when bending it to start the fitting process. Take you time. Read the instructions and gave atrial run, without pealing the sticky bit off. It's not difficult, motorcyclists do it!

Have used both Fog City and Pinlok.

Fog City from when they were first released, years ago. No problems. Just take care to clean the inside of the visor well before you fit it. They last for years with care but eventualy the seal goes, usualy at the bottom. On my last Arai I would guess the FC was still going strong at five years, probably 50k miles. There again, I try to look after my visor.

Pinlok, a good system. Easier to fit than FC. Got one on my Shoei Multitech helmet. 14K miles and no problems at all. Again, just make sure the inside of the visor is clean before fitting.

Don't bother to put one in a very dark visor. Chances are if you are wearing a dark visor the sun will be out and you won't steam up anyway.

At night you can get a bit of reflection between the two layers on both FC and Pinlok. It's no great problem.

Don't bother with the so called 'reactolite' FC or Pinlok visors. Total waste of your hard earned.

Bog standard washing up liquid with warm water does the trick to clean the visor or a bit of Rainex to get the surface really clean. Thereafter, just a bit of warmish water will keep the FC / Pinlok in order.

I think the one I have is pinlock :mmmm

Just wanted to make sure ... as I am not good with my hands .. seem to like to break things rather than fix things :augie

Chances are, if you have new Shoei MultiT, it's a Pinlok.

It's dead easy to fit a Pinlok. Don't panic!

Read the instructions and have a dry run.

You do have to bend the Shoei visor quite a long way. It won't break or crease. Just push the the visor ends together, resting one end on the tea towel. Bend the visor down carefully, having clipped one end of the Pinlok insert on. Clip the other end on, release the bent visor carefully and bingo! Job done.

If it isn't quite right you can always take it off and refit it. Something yuu cannot do with a FC.

Clean hands, clean visor before you start. Don't sweat, it's not bomb disposal.

I heard there is a pinlock available now made such that the top seal does not get in your line of sight. The seal attaches about 10mm higher on the visor than standard but does not foul the helmet when closed .
Called a 'superbiker pinlock' or something similar.
