For ALL enquiries on SIM Cards and E-SIMS

Your Lebara sim with 5gb will do fine.

If unsure, go 10gb. But you’ll be fine. I use A LOT of data when abroad and seldom go over 15gb or 20 for a full month. And I use it for music/work/etc.

I am wondering if the OP is overestimating data use whilst away. This is very common and only a consideration if streaming videos or playing online games. Google maps and even streaming radio from BBC Sounds uses very little data.
Also, Lebara will message you once down to 2GB of the 5GB although I have never triggered this

bang on Wessie. We have just come back from 3 weeks in Japan and we used our phones daily and very extensively. Yes, we went with E Sim but that's not the point. We both purchased 10GB from Airalo and we only used 5GB total. Cot was EURO 17.00 for the 10GB. I don't think you need very much.

Cheers chaps,
I think I may have got a bit paranoid on it...but I just didn't know and after reading more stuff than perhaps I should have..
I would not be streaming stuff or watching Utube stuff either....

Thanks all, feel better for your input...

Agree with all the above.

My only advice: make sure you have a way of checking data consumption.

All carriers will text you when you are near the limit.
Some have apps that show realtime usage. (See O2’s screenshot below)

As long as you can top up data before you reach the limit you’re ok.

I once “finished” data while traveling abroad and it was a bit of a pain.
I mean: half an hour on the phone to customer services, nothing major, but easily avoided if keeping an eye on consumption and topping up in advance if/when necessary.

you will probably be okay just with the normal Lebara SIM.

it would still be good to practice using google maps with data turned off and map data downloaded to the phone. I have been in remote areas where there is no 4G such as the Pyrenees or Mid Wales. You can also find in some older cities with narrow streets that you are in a complete radio shadow and have no 4G and no fix from a GPS satellite. At least with the map downloaded you can navigate by using the screen just like a paper map

Ime after a pay as you go sim card for my galaxy tab , tablet.
For use in both UK and Europe, anyone had any good experiences or ones to avoid.
Thanks in advance.

I have stuck this thread, which will mutate with time, no doubt.

how much data will you use?
how long in europe?
can you get a good signal on all networks?

Will be in Europe just for a couple of weeks at a time, data use i would imagine be fairly low just browsing the Internet.
Sorry no idea regarding signal.

i would probably pay for a lebara 30 day contract £10 quid for 30gb data, if I needed more data abroad, use an esim from holafly or similar.

most PAYG deals data now expires after 30 days anyway.

Another vote for Lebara . £5 per month . Or if you want an eSIM then use Airalo

So I usually do mine through my phone provider.
Obviously something like this is a better option. Screenshot_20250704_074247_Samsung Internet.jpg

If you’ll spend a lot of time in France & need a fair amount of data it’s much cheaper to get an Orange* PAYG in France.

You’ll need ID when buying it.

* maybe other networks, I got Orange

But then you’ll be limited to the Orange network and in some areas such as Brittany the signal is crap

look for the rolling 30 day deals - often a few pennies for the first couple of months. Cancel once home if needed as no long term commitment. £5 gets me 5GB a month on Lebara which is fine for a month away when staying in hotels and using their wifi for part of my needs. Free roaming in EU (so not Switzerland or Andorra so take care near borders).
