BMW yellow, factory Non ABS version

Current Mileage 101,344

I am the third owner, I am told the first owner did 99,000 mile. I bought it from this forum in July 2023

For its 23 years, it is still in very good condition and has just flown an MOT with no advisories. Last serviced in April this year.

The good

Since I have owned it has been garaged

Metzler Tourance tyres fitted with plenty of tread left

Beak protector fitted

Bar risers fitted

Hand guard extenders

Grip puppies fitted

Givi Mono key adaptor plate fitted (Top box in photos not for sale)

Original side panniers included with 2 keys not coded to ignition key and new Motea inner bags included

2 ignition keys

MRA vario screen fitted (original included in sale if required)

Oil cooler guard fitted

Wunderlich side stand extender fitted

Rugged road aluminium lockable tool box cover fitted (original plastic one included in sale, tool box is complete)

Rugged roads Perspex headlamp protector fitted (black metal protector also included)

Crud catcher fitted

Wally flaps fitted

Original seat adapted by (Digger seats) to a more Corbin seat comfort level

Cool Cover seat cover on front seat and Tribo seat cover on rear seat

Remus Genesis end can fitted, the original and first after-market end can for the 1150Gs (OE end can also included in the sale)

Black Baglux tank cover also included

All front and rear lights have had new conventional bulbs fitted

The not so good (age related issues)

As can be seen in the photos the general paint work for the bike’s age is very good, however the paint around the cylinder pot fins and engine has suffered a little through the 23 years

I am told by my mechanic that he thinks one of the left hand side rocker cover bolts (bottom right) has a stripped thread

The bike has a few wiring quirks. When you switch the bike on to start no warning lights show (I have changed both the oil pressure switch and warning light bulb and still no oil light when ignition is switched on), the gear indicator screen works fine so you know you are in neutral. Once the bike has run for a while and when neutral is selected the neutral like comes on a little dimmer than usual along with the low fuel light. I believe this may all be due to the wiring around the headstock getting old and playing up (a common issue so I am told)

Reason for sale

I am planning on buying a 1200RT

Price

I am looking for £1,950

Looks pretty good apart from the earth's issue .. lots of decent extras... Might be good to say where in GB you are...😉

Don’t sell it, I sold my 1100 for a R1200RT, which is fantastic, but now have a 27 year old GS as well, if it’s right keep it as well

looks a good honest bike for someone, good price as well. GLWS. Great bikes

OK, lets try a one off price reduction to £1850, if no takers I guess I have a GS for a little longer

Things aren't selling... It's a good bike but with a problem to sort that a decent diy'er would and many wouldn't as they are tethered to someone else to do it for them... I expect a PX will be an insult at best but at least you'll know... Good luck...

Thanks, I am sure any part ex will hurt but I can't keep the GS and the planned RT, fingers crossed

Thanks all for the views and comments but no offers. looks like I have another year with my GS.

Now a niche buy So niche buyer who likes fixing stuff is what you need... I expected the trade to say no but you only find out if you ask...

Its still a great bike, perhaps its fate telling me to keep it and not move back to a RT, although I have had a part-ex offer from a dealer of £1000 so who knows!

Best of luck. When I put mine up for sale here a couple of years ago, better condition I think, 113,000 miles I got a few very low ball offers. I decided to keep the bike, as even though I only use it very occasionally it is still fun to ride and makes a change from my other bike at a very low annual cost.

I’ve had the rear shock serviced by T-Tech and fitted a new front shock which has improved the ride quality. I’ve also replaced the push rods and upgraded the camchain tensioner, the bike now ‘purrs’ a lovely sound and a lot nicer than the ‘bag of hammers’ sound coming from the latest GS incarnation.

A 200 mile ride around Kielder & the borders on Monday was great fun and a reminder as to how good these bikes still are.

I did the Cam chain tensioner recently and it now doesn't wake the neighbours anymore on start up. I took it for a couple hundred mile overnight camping trip with a friend a month or so ago, they have an almost identical bike with even a few more miles on it than mine.
We had a great time on some wonderful roads in Wales and both bikes were faultless, if fate decides I keep it then so be it as my friend says"It doesn't owe you anything!"
I do enjoy the freedom of parking it anywhere I want, and not worrying if it is still there when I get back and Insurance is very cheap relatively so perhaps I just live with its quirks and just enjoy riding an icon!

Unless it was space related I wouldn't sell my low value bikes... They are worth way less than a posh bikes payments and depreciation and having a choice each morning adds to the fun...👍
