talk me through your front brake line set-up here :

It's wot I want to do but can't quite tell what goes where from the pic. And I've just spotted its an 1150 front end - so might not work on my 1100 anyway.

And how did you make those lights?

questions questions ...

Well....it`s an 1150 front end fitted to an 1100....with 1100 calipers.

I decided what I wanted to do,measured up the job and contacted HEL who made up the hoses for me.

The 1150 normally has a metal linking pipe across the back of the fork bridge, and uses
one brake line from front master cylinder to ABS unit
one brake line from ABS unit to metal pipe
one line either side from metal pipe to each caliper.

I didn`t use the metal linking pipe,so I`ve got
one brake line from front master cylinder to ABS unit
one brake line from ABS unit to right hand caliper
one brake line from right hand caliper to left hand caliper

If you`re doing this from scratch,as I was, you`ll need to use a piece of wire to guage the required length of brake line from banjo bolt centre to banjo bolt centre...allowing for suspension movement.

Also, you`ll have to specify what type of banjos are required, depending on the order of assembly where they`re doubled up on the caliper...ie,'flat straight' or 'flat-curved up at 30 degrees' etc.
Likewise you`ll have to state what type of fitting is used into the ABS unit as there`s a few different ones.

Then, the easy bit...specify what colour lines you want and what finish of banjos.

You can`t get an 'off the shelf' brake line kit now,due to all the differences,so you`ll have to do some checks yourself.

The headlamp unit is a secondhand Touracrap one with 60/55w lamps.. despite the 'don`t do that..thay`ll melt the unit' merchants, mine is fine.
There again,I don`t have my lights on in the daytime.

Blimey that was quick!

Thanks Tarka. I was getting confused over the "doubled up" bit but now I see what you've done. Have you got any pics of the RH caliper?

Don't worry if not

Cheers!

Why do you need a picture of it ? :nenau

It`s just a caliper with two brake lines on it...the lower banjo is 'flat-straight' and the upper one is 'flat-bent up at 30 degrees'.....and a double length banjo bolt to attach them.

Regardless of what front end is used, you can go caliper to caliper with brake lines..there`s no need to use factory hose splitter pieces.

Hey, I like pictures ....

the double length banjo was my conceptual sticking point - got it now.

Cheers!

For any others interested in this - the brake hose connecting the two calipers needs to be 67cm long and costs £29.00 from HEL.
