For those who have only had BMWs for the last few years and now have a toilet...

Too much indicating going on if you ask me,especially at roundabouts, some bod who's going straight over the roundabout indicates right then indicates left :nenau your going straight on for goodness sake why are you indicating ?

You're waiting to turn right at a junction there is a car approaching indicating left,do you pull out ? no I don't either,so another wasted indication.

So many indications going on that give absolutely no information to anyone,my wife's a classic she can indicate she's passing a parked car when there's no other traffic in sight.

So,back to the paddle indicators, yes I prefer them but don't have a problem with the others.

Whilst I agree about people indicating right and then left when they are going straight on at roundabouts I certainly don't agree that there is too much indicating. As regards roundabouts, depending on when you learnt to drive you will have been given different advice. If you live where I do people only indicate when they are leaving a roundabout anyway.

If I see a car indicating to turn left I look then look for other signs of the intended manoeuvre before deciding in pulling out, I can't see that the signal is wasted. Would you rather they simply turned without the signal?

You say your wife indicates when there is no other traffic in sight. I presume you mean that you can't see any other traffic. This is of course not the same thing. How many people don't see a pedestrian or cyclist let alone a biker? So if you are absolutely sure there is no other road user about then don't signal, but you do have to be sure, and unless you can be sure I think indicating is a good idea. Might wear out your bulbs a bit quicker but other than that no unpleasant side effects.
