Spent the afternoon on an Africa Twin. Go to be honest and rather liked it :)

On the way home, my cruise control '15 GS seems rather temperamental to engage and "switched itself off" off a couple of times.
The switch you use to activate it has always seemed a little "wobbly" ? :nenau
Is this normal to be wobbly, and anyone else with similar issues ?

Probably worth dropping into the dealer and letting them take a spin for 5 minutes. I was having trouble getting mine to engage and they switched out the switchgear, issue resolved. So they may agree with your assessment and go down the same route.

Thanks. It's always seemed a little wobbly but wasn't sure if that was "normal"
I'll give them a shout and expect the usual "We've never had that before....." :)

Known fault, my left switch was replaced for the same reason, ps it will not show up as faulty if they plug the bike into diagnostics

Off topic slightly, last year on a trip abroad to France, I had for some reason I cannot recall, set the bike mode to enduro. On a long road I tried to set the cruise control and nothing happened. Tries it a few times, wiggling the switch, cursing, thinking I would have to complain to the dealer when I returned until.....

I knocked it out of enduro into one of the other modes and voila ! cruise control working as normal.

Operator Error. Cruise doesn't work in enduro mode for obvious reasons.

It was definitely in "Road" and did engage a couple of times, but also disengaged itself too......
Perhaps it was "Sulking" :D

Never mind about the switch, how did the Japanese bike compare to the German bike?

Let me get this straight. You go and ride another bike whilst your loyal Beemer sits at a Honda garage. And now you are wondering why it is giving you grief. At least cover its eyes so that it doesn't see you sin or take the car.

Visit your (BMW) dealer. Word has it that this is a routine replace job due to crappy Chinese suppliers. Even after warranty expiry apparently. Yours should still be covered?

Warranty still in place, and when I rang, it seemed to just be a case of "oh, that, yeh, we'll sort it" without even seeing it, so hopefully that's the case.

I've got to be honest, I actually quite liked it. The gearbox was lovely and the engine seems very tractable all the way through the Rev range. it also makes a rather nice noise.
It's strange, it almost seems a little "flat" in it's power delivery, but a glance at the speedo shows you're travelling somewhat quicker than you thought. Seat felt a little narrow and hard on first getting on, but to be honest no complaints after an hour or so riding. It has very soft suspension, and I didn't play with it, but it handled well and was comfy.
A GS, no doubt would outrun it, and more than likely out handle one in the twisty bits. It would also I imagine be better at lugging a load of luggage across Europe or wherever. But to be fair, If I'd not got a GS already, I'd be seriously tempted with the AT. I may even go down that route in the future.

Had a ride on the Africa Twin, like you I started to find faults on my bike to justify a change, I bet your bike needs new pads, a service and new tyres so swapping makes so much sense.
However the Africa Twin did not sparkle for me, it was a DCT model and is a typical example of technology looking for a use. Probably run for 100,000 miles fault free but at £11250 not for me.
I did go on to test a new F800GS and I'm very tempted, I just have to get over the massive loss on my well used 1200LC.
