I need to tidy my forks on an 1150,siler hammerite seems to be the way to go,the question is how soft are they --what do I use to clean off the pitting-wire brush seems a bit severe ,will I end up with no pitting but deep scratches would sander wheel on drill work!!!
any ideas welcome .

I have done mine a couple of times as running all year seems to cause a bit of damage to them. I cleaned the old paint off with a brass wire brush in the electric drill and it removed the paint without scoring the metal and even leaves the textured finish intact. If using Hammerite you should use the special primer (just brush it on but nice and thin so good result) as the paint seems to have stayed on better since I used it :clap

thanks for that,
wasn't sure if the brush in the drill route would be to severe, didn't really want to find it was after i'd messed up.cheers for the tips I will give it a go.

ISTR someone (may have been Gauloise) polishing his fork bridge & he reckoned it was much more resilient.

Got so fed up trying to keep mine tidy, found it easier to cover then up with neoprene covers courtesy of Geno, with velcro straps

looks nice, but have you ever heard of poultice corrosion? as it looks like you are creating an ideal environment for it under those covers.

I got my bridge and lower fork legs shot blasted, then I painted them with silver Hammerite, just the job. Just be careful to mask off any parts that you don't want cleaned. (like the upper legs). The bike is now into its second winter, with no sign of any corrosion.:thumb

I had my fork brace polished about 5 years ago. Although I only metal polish it about every 6 months (2 minute job), it is still as shiny as the day it was first done.

As far as i can see there is not a problem with these , .Must admit yours do look good .i was to lazy to drop whell out ,just removed calipers , Thanks for photo.

Sorry to dig this one up again, folks, but I'm ashamed to admit my mechanical ability isn't up to much :augie (or rather my confidence in being able to get a decent finish ), so was wondering if anyone did get back with a recommendation on who might be able to fix the brace and sliders? I'm thinking chroming might be too expensive, so polishing or simply reconditioning.
Cheers
