2001 1150. Being serviced today (only done 6K - cos I live in the Isle of Man!). Tried to get them to sort the shite fork brace out under (out of) warranty.

Hmmm. I wonder whats gonna happen???

Watch this space. (might be under the forum rant!!!)

The paint on the engine is pretty bollocks as well, but I bet they'd never sort that out !

I got a letter from a dealer in west yorkshire

went somthing like you have had your B*w for 18 months we hope everything is find with it please call and talk to us to find if any recalls or warrenty work is required to be carried out

Anyhow I called them after a check the The dealer replied "no your bike is all ok no recall work to be carried out"

I replied "fork brace is very scabby paint peeling of etc can we replace this under warrenty bloody poor show this from b*w
dealer reply "we will get back to you"
two weeks later guess what I AM STILL FU*KING WAITING

BE DIFFERENT IF HE WANTED HIS BOILER SERVICED OR A NEW PART FOR HIS BOILER UNDER WARRENTY

tactics are he will read this
:D and it might push the right buttons

Seems that most of the replies here relate to 1150 GS' but I was shocked to note earlier that the silver paint on my 03 DAKAR was starting to peel off at the top of BOTH forks, right next to the fork seals - the brace itself looks fine. I first noticed it on the sponge I was using to clean it, so it was not being handled roughly. The bike is not quite a year old yet and it is after all a BMW, so I admit to being a touch disappointed.

I do very little Winter riding as I know the salt can play havoc with the paintwork, but if I ever take it out on salty roads, I will nearly always wash it down, will always dry it off and let the engine idle for a good while before putting it back in the shed.

In fairness I have not mentioned this to the dealer yet, but when I rang him to check whether a faulty "low petrol" indicator would be repaired under warranty after its 1st birthday, he told me that it was. I wonder whether the guarantee will also cover the flaking paint. Being paranoid, I have now checked the rest of the bike and that seems fine.

Warranty covers everything ;)

Even after some dealers will replace the fork brace
if you pay the labour .

1) Fork brace corrosion
2) Fork leg corrosion (is that what you call the bits the wheel plugs into?)
3) Engine front cover corrosion - really bad "bubbling" around each of the 8(?) bolts that fasten it to the engine body.

Warranty claim being sorted at the next service by Bath Road (nice people to do business with...)

Update ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Got the bike back from service. Theyre gonna look into it!!

Meanwhile the clock ticks away, the bike gets older, my hair grows thinner etc etc etc:shoot:

I got my fork brace and both wheels replaced out of warranty, although it was only about 6 months out. No quibbles, and the only wait was for the parts to arrive.
