I'm after a fork brace for my 1986 mono ( even taxed it today :eek: - woman in the P.O. almost fainted :D)...but they are a tad difficult to source. What type, where from, have you got one to sell etc etc ( I'm finding it difficult to touch the pots down especially on right handers due to the flex :rolleyes: ) My last mono had the pressed/bent black alloy inveted 'U' brace...seemed to work fine :)
 
I've got a Teleflex on mine at the moment. Works fine but sits a bit to close to the tyres to be any good for off road use.
 
Try Googling San Jose fork brace. That too is a bit too close to the tyre though. Maybe it's time someone designed one with more clearance?
 
iirc motorworks had some. old and in need of tlc (grit blast n recote) dont think they wanted to chuck them in the skip:D. i think they were in their special offer section. deffo worth a call :thumb Bm
 
Why did the woman in the post office nearly faint? Have you gotten really ugly and hideous since I last saw you, are those cherubic boyish features disappearing? :D

P.S. your bike looks good even if you don't.
 
hi Kenny, sorry i have none in my secret drawers sold my two spare ones.
try see if flipfly pastyman will part with it.:)

Fork Brace..... Hmmmmmm

Absolutely redundant unless you have a heavy, large section front wheel. The stiffening forces are predominantly needed to correct gyroscopic action. That is the reluctance of a (especially) heavy rotating wheel to want to change track or direction.

Looks the dogs b*llocks though......:thumb2 but does add to unsprung weight...:confused:

Can anyone measure for me ?

My bike is in a friends garage for a couple of days but he is away...so if anyone can have a look at the attached advert ( looks like it will fit as I know fork stanchions are 35mm ) and compare measurements to see if it is compatable, I'd be obliged:)

Sorry Kenny but mine is now firmly fixed to my forks:) Cant comment on any difference to the handling as Ive not tried it without.
The ones you have posted do look as if they would do the job but your bike is nice and original (like mine) and a set of those would spoil it IMHO
The proper one will be available somewhere or a very good copy shouldnt be too difficult to get made.
 
kenny,did someone do the measure for you?
i thought you wanted the original type brace not the micron /ultimate source type.

i had seen some stainless folded one somewhere for sale?
but is simply a folded piece ,i think with gs letters laser cut into it.
can you not get the original ordered from bmw? i thought they were about seventy pounds.
