Guys,

I'll be over next week-end and was just looking for a few tips for day trips from Fort William which will be our base.

We'll be on the bike and would like to see the best of the terrain but still having to return to FW each night.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Hi Trev
It's a pretty good base for some great roads.
Fort to Applecross is around 3 hours and if you have'nt done it before is a must.
Fort to Mallaig and the ferry to Skye is only about 45mins.
Also have a look at The road to Newtonmore and Dalwhinnie or Aviemore.
You cant really go wrong :thumb2

Spean Bridge over to the A9 then a boring bit as you head South for Loch Rannoch, Pitlochry and then Aberfeldy/Loch Tay back to Crianlarich and Rannoch Moor/GlenCoe.

The only downside is that you probably will have already covered Rannoch Moor and GlenCoe on the way up.

BTW 'The Grog and Gruel' on the main drag in Fort Bill does some nice mexican-style scoff in the restaurant upstairs.:thumb2

Spoilt with lots of great roads about here.
The run out to Ardnamurchan is well worth doing, the bit between Ardgour and Strontian always raises a smile.
Another good day is the Ski run. Head out to Laggan then over to Glenshee, the Leicht and then over towards Granton and back down through Aviemore, Newtonmore and back to the Fort.
Kinlochourn is a great single track run that is often overlooked, as is Glen Etive.
As Rab and Klanky have said, you cant really go wrong. :thumb2

I take it you're on the GS, and you're not heading up the pass to Applecross on the 'Busa :blast

I like the road up to Invergarry, and then over to Loch Duich, Achnasheen, Kinlochewe, Poolewe and round to Ullapool :thumb2

I headed up to Ullapool last week, had a really enjoyable run. Met up with a few riders from England, they were staying in Fort William Good run, good bistro, good fish n chip shop, and they have day-trip boat rides as well.
