Forza 350 or ADV 350?

Wish we got them. Honda markets their scooters here as "Fun comes in many sizes." Unfortunately only two; 150cc and 49cc, and my sweet spot for scooters is 250-400cc.

Well it took a while to get sorted, but I finally collected it today and did 100 miles on it. What a bloody lovely scooter.

Just felt like a perfect fit, and felt just like a larger version of my old PCX.

Managed an indicated 98mph at one point. On a private road obviously.

Eyeing up a very cheap Forza 350 which I was tempted by, however having just rung my local Honda dealer who advises me the 16,000 mile service will set me back £870 including valves and shims I'm out.
Makes the Burger servicing look like a snip.

Take it to an independent, Honda service prices are mental

That’s a bit high. Which dealer quoted that, and what for. ?

16,000 miles including shims and valves. Vertu Honda.

wouldn’t think valves would need replacing ???

shims if necessary yes, but not valves :nenau

if you change valves you have to lap them in to the valve seats, so head off etc, hardly a service item , sounds like bollocks to me to use the technical term

I have heard some bad things about vertu Honda up in the north east. Perhaps it’s a bad dealer to use all over.

I confess to being a technical idiot so have no idea what they would be doing with the valves, I assumed checking clearances but only because I've heard those words grouped together in sentences relating to motorbike servicing.

Edit: I was also told a Genuine Honda drive belt for the Forza 350 is £45 which I find difficult to believe. Re Vertu, I'm not convinced I'd ever be comfortable dealing with them for anything much.

It’s a main dealer thing, in my experience they’re mostly all the same, and a good independent will do a better job for less money and you get to speak to the mechanic and discuss the work done.

I agree. I really enjoy the Burger but I've had a few issues with it, always the starter motor. The latest is my fault as rather than paying £450 for a Suzuki starter motor I went for a cheap pattern part which failed within a few weeks. My kindly Suzuki dealer took the bike to bits and got it running again but I had an operation a couple of months ago and have been unable to get to the bike to turn it over and now it won't start. She also needs a service.
This might sound daft but right at the moment I can't afford the cost to get it sorted and serviced so I've been using the car to get about but I'm missing being on the bike and (this is the bit that will sound daft) can get the money together for a new bike as I can justify that expense as a 'long term cost'. Whatever I buy next will be my last new or replacement bike but I'm baulking at the long term cost of servicing for the Honda. I just need to get my head around forking out £700+ to get the Suzuki sorted. Or bite the bullet and by the Forza.

My dealer says £500 max even with belt. Rollers and having to strip for the valves. Which probably won’t be needed.
You need to change your preferred dealer.

I watched a couple of videos on YouTube on how to change a belt and bobbin thingy , all be it on a PCX, and it looks to be a simple job, one guy changed the air filter at the same time because it was easy access while changing the belt.

Don’t be frightened of having a go, especially the simple things like belts and air filters ect, its very satisfying and you learn about your bike/ scooter, a £ saved is as good as a £ earned.

My next scooter will be an ADV 350 thanks in part to Stever1 European trip and write up .... (y)

You’re absolutely right. I’ve changed the oil and filter after that trip. All done in 10 minutes

I give myself a pat on the back if I manage to get air into the tyres without fcking it up. Anything other than that is way beyond me which is why I have to factor in costs for other people to do the needful. If my bike's still under warranty, either initial because it's new or extended because it's not, I prefer to use main dealer as I hope that will make it easier to deal with any issues that may arise.
