Found a Good Powder Coating Co in Swansea

Just thought I would share this one with you. My Touratech pannier frames were looking a bit "ropey", but I was having difficulty finding somewhere local that did Powder Coating.

After being pointed in the right direction by Dennis, the trail ended up on an Industrial Estate in Swansea. The company is Bernard Hastie & Co Ltd, Morfa Road, Swansea, SA1 2EP. Tel: (01792) 651541. Fax: (01792) 468119. Location: N51 37.966' W 003 56.146'.

I had already had the frames sandblasted locally (£15 but it was convenient) although I think that Hasties could have sandblasted them too if needed.

The cost of Powder Coating both pannier frames and the connecting strut was just £20. I had rung a couple of other companies - the closest other one I could find was in Bridgend, but their minimum charge was £80 which seemed a bit steep.

Seems like very good service to me.

Taff When you say you had them sandblasted do they take it right down to the metal before they do the powder Coating?

And do know if aluminium can be powder Coated?

is popwder coating cheaper than spraying. I'm restoring an old autocycle, lots of surface rust, no need to have powdercoating done as it will not be out in the rain but if cheaper thenagain I might do it

I had the frames sandblasted right back to the metal locally, as I was planning on having them sprayed in a local car repairers. I think he charged me £15 for sandblasting all 3 pieces, but it turned out that the other local guy wanted £80 just to spray paint them with 3 coats. He reckoned that as they were so "fiddly" he would waste a lot of paint - personally I just think he didn't want such a small job. These frames were aluminium, but apparently not every company can or will powder coat aluminium - just steel. No idea what they do differently but thats what I was told.

It was definately miles cheaper in my case, but I think the powder coaters could have charged more and the sprayer could have charged less - if that makes sense. If I'd known about this company 2 years ago, I wouldn't have wasted a whole day rubbing the frames down and handpainting them when I bought them.

These guys are now surface industries based on fabian way, swansea. Definately dont use them! I had some bits done for the bike and 1st off they came back gloss not matt so i had to wait even longer. When i did get them back they had been sandblasted to death so all the thin metal was destorted, the coating was excesively thick, none of the threads had been masked and they were expensive. Will be sticking to bristol powdercoaters or griffs reality motorcycles in the future. There. Rant over.....
