So how does one pronounce it?
Just booked a lovely cottage for family of 6 for a week and now find that some call it Fowey and others call it Foy - so I can be seen as a local when I'm there whats the right way to pronounce Fowey :nenau

Fowwweeeeee....... said with a 'rising in tone' lisp, alligning all six fingers on one hand to your eye brow in a form of salute, you'll fit right in:D

Oh yes, they say Foy, nice area indeed, I had a week in Lerryn(?) just up the creek, a couple of years back, i'd certainly go back:thumb2

If you want to be taken for a local, pencil-in a mono-brow (if you don't already have one) and remember to refer to your missus as 'mother'.

Already sorted - I hail from deepest Lincolnshire :D

you will have a lovely time in fowey, best places to eat are pinky murphys, sams which is in fowey and sams on the beach which is just outside fowey, great atmosphere in both. if you are into high teas there is a lovely cafe opposite the lugger pub i think, you will know its the right place because it has knitted cakes in the window, very different. if you like walking there are plenty of routes. have fun
smiler ;)

Going with wife and kids (3 teenagers plus eldest daughter's boyfriend) in 2 cars.
As kids won't surface until lunch I'm looking forward to morning hikes.

Great walk , go to the Boddanick ferry ,walk up the hill and hook a right down the footpath. takes you all along the eastern side of te river opposite fowey town, good views and then goes in around the polruan creek and eventually into Polruan. quite quaint and a couple of good pubs there too. catch small ferry back to Fowey(Foy). probably take a bit more than a morning though but easily doable by a couple of pensioners like us though.:D

Fowey

As most have said it is "Foy". Nice place, but watch the gulls they'll have anything that isn't closely guarded!

Did a really nice walk around the headland and back to Polruan, great scenery but hard work, you'll need to allow about four hours. Can thouroghly recommend the sausages from the Butchers in Fowey (can't remember the name, sorry)
