Hi guys, I apologise for coming to the 1200 section (tell me to get lost if ya want)
Im have a little trouble with my little gs and now looking at the FPC,
Just a few questions if I may....

If you have ever had the FPC go on your bike was it instant or did you experience a rough idle before the FPC shut down completely ?

Im unfortunately looking at taking it to the dealer because im running out of ideas, so my last question is,
With the £10,000+ computer that they have, do the FPC values show up or do they get their values from other sorces..IE o2 sensor showing 0.9v or pressure rail...ect ect
Here is the thread...http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327982
Once again I apologise for coming on here but I would think you guys would know these answers with you eyes closed...many thanks Tosh

They simply replace it, chrage you about £90 plus labour. If the problem goes away it is fixed ...:aidan

If it does throw any errors it is likely that a GS911 will detect the error code too.

Poor idling is but one symptom, IIRC they more commonly give up the ghost quite abruptly, then come back to life again after short while. This cycle repeats a few times then they are as good as the DoDo.

I have had poor idling as a result of a failed O2 sensor ( detected by my GS911), poor fuel from Tescos, flat battery and failed coils. They were fixed by : a new O2 sensor; filling with bteer fuel and cleaning with Fuel Injector cleaner; replacing the battery ( it was over 3 years old); replacing the coil.

Hope that starts to lead you the right way ...

My you are having a time of it!!

I read the other thread and you seemed to have verified all the obvious causes.

I have not suffered FPC problems but I suspect good acceleration would not be a feature of problems in this area.
I'm not familiar with the 800 but in general I would look at the timing and search for a weak spark, your problems seem to be when the engine is off load and hence will probably be running at it's leanest and hence in a state of needing the fattest spark it can get.

I hope someone more 'seasoned' comes along soon:nenau

Manuals

Anyone heard of a Clymer manual coming out for the 1200's?, seems odd that one hasent appeared as they have been around for a whiule now and are supposed to be best sellers. And one can do with out the paynes version!.

Mine died suddenly about 60km from Perth, WA.

Game over.

Steve, steve, steve, You sir are a god send...Unfortunately Im a taxi driver so I will be at work all hours over the weekend...Anytime, and I mean anytime that's convenient to you next week...my number--07825 041396. If you want I can pick you up, its the least I could do, The wife says a drink with a choccy biscuit or cake if preferred.. Once again cheers..Tosh (tony) west hull.

Tosh, if you need a new FPC be sure to keep the old faulty one to use as a donor for the connectors, with them you can make a get-you-home FPC bypass cable for the future.

Cheers steve, I will have the phone with me at all times...Tosh
To puk, cheers for that mate , Ive had a look at the fly lead and it looks very easy too make....I will keep you all posted,,Tosh

Steve K is indeed a godsend, Came round to mine earlier this week and put his GS911 on my bike to help me find the out what fault code it was throwing up and give me an idea of where to start fault finding.

Thanks again Steve.

Regards Peter.

Sorry guys, dunno how this appeared in here.

Pete, Ive been on the phone today with steve, he was saying about your problems and how the 911 picked up the injector fault, I really hope you get it sorted mate, cheers ..tosh
To be honest I didn't think anyone in Hull had a gs ,Let alone a gs-911..
I see them at seaways and log cabin but I don't see them in Hull...

If its any use to people on here I have a DVD with a full BMW "factory type" :augie service manual that covers all models of the R1200GS inc the twin cam.

If anyone is interested PM me

Well steve came around tonight with his laptop and gs-911, he tested everything and reset everything.. There was about 6 fault codes and once they were cleared and a full reset the codes did not return..
However with the 911 set on realtime values and a voltage graph set to lambda output we found some interesting stuff...
When we start the bike ( fully warm )( on tick over) the graph started from 0.4 v and then just dropped to 0v and stayed there, I believe that's super lean, when revved the voltage went through the roof well over the green part of the realtime page set to 0.9v and through the floor again well below the green area in the realtime screen, Then again when left to tick over it was showing a flat line at the bottom of the green screen, indicating a lean mix...There wasn't a smooth wave ranging from 0.2v to 0.9v...
So it looks like a new o2 sensor is on the cards...
I wish to thank steve for taking the time out to help me on this and what a small world we live in,
I would also like to thank everyone for their help...
I will keep you all posted as I go on and come to the conclusion for the fix..Cheers..Tosh
