Trying to fit the SW motech engine guards. Took the frame bolt out an now frame is out of line an can't get new bolt or old one in.

HEEEEEELLLLLLLLP!
What do I do now?

Is the weight of the bike supported under the sump plate on a jack?

If not, the rear subframe has probably moved due to the spring top mount being under tension whilst carrying the weight of the bike. Put a jack under the sump plate if not already there and adjust it until the hole realigns.

It was on the stand:(

Phew... I must have been lucky! I have just fitted the SW Motech crash bars on my 1200GS and didn't think to use a jack, just removed the bolts one by one. The instruction they came with were pretty vague and certainly never mentioned using a jack.

That could be part of the problem, the stand is fitted to the rear subframe so is probably being pushed out of alignment with the engine by the weight of the bike.

When I fitted my H&B bars, I used a jack to just take some weight under the sump plate and also made sure to only undo one side at a time to keep the rear subframe in some kind of alignment.

Wheeled it back inside and put on the side stand. Thought I'd try and see if I could get bolt in. Heh presto bolt went in!

One side done.
I'll use the jack on the next one.

Threads on engine sump are so soft was really worried in case I cross threaded.

Cheers everyone! Right side should be easier:thumb2
