Frame brace

Hi all, NEWB here. I have steadily been looking at all the threads and this is definitely the most active airhead forum in the UK. Lots of interesting and good reading. So I present to you for your review - Frame braces.

*Top triple clamp aluminium - check! Comes as standard on an R65.
*Sliders brace - check! (was not expecting much from this)
*Frame braces! Owmuch!!!??? "Don't do a lot" "racing frames only" "waste of time money" etc
*Rebuilt forks, progressive springs, new rear shocks, frame bearings greased and checked - check!
*Tyres and pressures good (32/34PSI) - check!

DIY ones in pic below. Results? a lot less shaking vibration. The head stays in the same place and the horn and RT fairing have stopped moving /causing odd noises. Bumpy roads? The bike now moves as one, it did not before. The front and fairing were 'disconnected' from the tank and me. Handling? Hard to tell, I do lean off the bike and like to make the most of country roads. I haven't hit that mid-corner pothole yet, but that is where it will show itself I am sure.

I saw the price of the frame bars too Mine are made from pit-bike handlebar clamps and some steel tube. I like to think they look a bit nicer than a pair of U bolts. Mine also allow the standard air filter and access to get everything on or off without removing them

Not sure ~60 or 70 BHP (maybe) is going to trouble the standard (short) swingarm on mine much, but I'm not knocking bracing there as things do bend and move around. Maybe if I have the driveshaft out one day.

What problem are we trying to fix here?

No problems as such. I fitted a hoop type fork brace out of curiosity and liked the increase in stability. The frame braces were also made for the same reason and also make a worthwhile improvement.

I liked what the fork brace did on the motor way passing lorries and also when on bad road surfaces.

Thought I would share as I had seen various opinions on whether the frame braces do anything. They do. Less vibration and less movements on bad surfaces.

Just leave it as it is and ride it. The 1000cc bikes make 50bhp (if you haven't messed with them, around 40bhp if you have )

R80 makes around 38/40bhp in standard trim
