Hope someone can help.

Tried to remove the alternator cover yesterday and after removing the crash bars removed all the relevant screws and the cover is loose but It will not slide out past the front shock.

It had a low speed tumble 9 months ago , the fork rubes were very slightly bent but nothing else visible , forks now ok and the front end is back on.

All prev posts on alternator indicate this is not a major job so I am thinking now that the frame has some damage but before I panic and get another headstock are there any reference measurements I can take from the Alternator cover to the front suspension lower mount to see whether my suspicions are correct .

Are there any alternatives or other areas I should look at like the front wishbone before I embark on a full rebuild which I really want to avoid.

Is there anyone local to Cheshire who does frame repairs ???

It would seem impossible to damage the head stock by THAT much without noticing the handling?.

Forgot to add it is a 2006 GSA

I haven't ridden it since she went down as I busted some ribs (mobile phone and jacket in chest inner pocket ) and my hand and have spent the winter slowly sorting her out , she went to start last week after fitting new battery got the alternator squeal which is why I am now buggered !!!!

It was a low speed spill when front end went down on some gravel , crash bars got a good scuffing plus the bent tubes

The stupid plastic alternator cover is a complete pig to remove especially if you have ESA shocks. I doubt your frame is bent.

I recall getting hold of the damned cover and giving it a sharp pull downwards, it will come off but needs forcing past the upper alternator pulley and down through the gap behind the telelever wishbone.

thanks . hopefully that's all it is ,

am trying to get away without having to take the tank off but looking at the amount of space there is I might have to do it and take the ESA off if I have to replace the alternator. A lot of metal filings and rubber dust came out when I first loosened it
