Frame Painting....and footpegs

Hi all, last week I collected my pre-loved 2012 1200GS and although she's had a hard start to her life...I'm ready to give her a little attention and spruce up.

As you can see from the pic...previous mx boots have rubbed the frame and worn away the paint. My plan...was to rub the area down with a little wetndry paper - then spray straight onto it with Hammerite Silver Smooth. Once dry...a patch of helicopter tape over the area to try to stop the same happening again. Can anyone see any problem with that....or better suggestion as to how to treat it?

Secondly...the footpegs, they're not standard GS ones - are they simply GSA ones or does anyone recognise them as another make? I'd like some rubber inserts for them but until I am sure what make they are I don't know where to start looking to source them?

why not put some frame guards over the rubbed bits,touratech or wunderlich do them.
the pegs are indeed gsa ones and you dealer will supply you with rubber inserts which i think were meant fot the 800gs

re the frame just clean it put the copter tape on and then the frame guards,saves having a non matching patch.

Just to make you aware of an alternative, have a look at Plastidip. Some positive results from those who have done it to their GS bikes. Mostly on another forum over the pond. Here is the search results.

Clean, prime and paint. When dry, cover the tubes with split silicone hose (thinner = better) cover the lot with laser cut shields from the usual farkle suppliers. The rubber hose will stop the shields & zip ties from rubbing.

Self amalgamating electrical tape will also cushion the paint.

If they are BMW GSA footrests (and they seem to look like it), you can get rubber inserts to fit - motorworks do them, - but make sure you also get the 'S' shaped clip and nuts to hold them on.
